My 95 mustang 5.0 ran stock longblock, hci and all with little to no issue after the tune. Just some rich startups. It ran a non intercooled kb blowzilla/flowzilla 2.2 at 15psi at 5500 rpms short shifting. Intake side had an anderson power pipe and 75mm tb. Fueling was 42lb injectors and 340lph pump. It had longtubes full 2.5 inch duals with 3.73s and it felt like a big block in that little car. Having boost response at low rpms makes for a much different driving experience.

Funny I built an almost exact engine for my 1973 Maverick Grabber. Except it has 11.0 to 1 comp ratio, 331 stroker. Same heads (older when they were another brand RHS bought) Same Cam. Dynoed at 464fwhp at 5800rpm and I can't recall the torq. The valves and springs were all picked for the heads, no preassembled BS. Harland Sharp roller rockers. It runs 11.18s@119mph. Trans is c4 roller bearings full reverse valve body, has a transbrakes but never used it. Need some better slicks for that. It would def hit 10.80s/10.90s imho.

I mean I have seen the standard 5.0 Ford blocks split with my own eyes. There’s a reason why the Ford guys go to a Ford sportsman block or an aftermarket block. There is a huge difference between running a motor on a dyno in controlled conditions versus in a car with weather variables and driveline shock.

Turbo. However, that is predicated on being able to get it installed. I do not have the fabrication skills and tools to build complex turbo exhaust and intercooler ducting. Having an application specific turbo kit available, such as those for Fox Body Mustangs, would be major factor in the decision. I had a 05 Mustang GT with a Magnuson supercharger that was bolted on over a weekend and it made a whole new car out of it. Hard to argue those results.

Here's what I know about the 5.0s splitting. There's no magical number where it happens but it's been proven that the 5.0s do split. However, 9/10 times it's the 1-5 non H-O firing order that does this. There's a really thin wall behind the timing cover between cylinders 1&5 and when they fire one after the other with enough power, the fracture starts in that thin spot. Eventually it cracks all the way down the lifter valley virtually splitting the engine in half. Most of the time, the H-O 1-3 firing order has less of a chance of doing this. This is why you also basically never see this with the 351w even though it's got the same thin spot.

I really want to try one of them torque storms thinking about putting one on my LS truck I was going to do the LSA blower but God people want so much for them right now it's like over 3 Grand to get the whole thing like they want like 1500 bucks just for the lids and then you still got to do the belt routing and everything and I've had lots of fun with my vortecs and I did have a powerdyne back in the day and they were fine as long as you didn't spin them past like 36,000 RPMs but after that they would just fall apart no matter what you did cuz I had all the upgrades and didn't make a difference impeller upgraded like gears better case venting do yourself a favor if you ever see a powerdyne run and now I'm talking about the belt driven ones not that very last gear driven one that they made but with that one you had to run oil lines and on a lot of cars nowadays it is a pain in the ass to drop the oil pan to do a return line or at least do it right I've never been brave enough to try and do the return line with the oil pan on the car and grease on the tap and hope that you don't get any shavings in the engine but if you don't know the backstory the powerdyne went to the guys who make torque storm and asked him to make them a self contained unit like the vortec V3 and the pro charger but you know Powerdynes are always super cheap and when the machining shop came back and told them the price it was going to be the guys reneged on their deal and just left and so instead of dropping all that time and effort they had they decided to just make it themselves also they told me if you have a powerdyne setup and you think you can put a torque storm blower on it you cannot they changed the bolt spacing cuz I asked them I got the whole story and now the spacing is slightly different and they will not bolt up directly I suppose you could maybe modify the bracket or something but those powerdyne brackets were too thin and flimsy anyways they had too much deflection I do like how these storm guys have a good strong t6 aluminum that's three quarters of an inch thick so it minimizes deflection anyways this is getting too long but I think I might put one of those on my truck just still trying to figure out if I'm going to cam it or not have to do both at the same time cuz they want like $1,000 for a freaking Dyno tune nowadays

Richard, you alluded to the TB being possibly too small at the beginning. My explorer 5.0 has a 70mm and I snagged a gm TB and they start at 87mm. Obviously it isn't going to fit. But... Then Richard drops this video and explains rising boost rate with RPM, and shows how turbo lag is almost not a thing when the unit is sized properly for the engine.

Well you know what we used to do back in the day if we had a centrifugal and we want a more power down low but not a whole bunch of top we would put on basically what amounted to an air leak and put a smaller pulley on spin the centrifugal faster so you'd make more boost down low and then he would bleed it off up top so he's only made 10 psi or whatever Max I only did that on one set up and I didn't like it so I just took it off
@richardholdener1727

guys have run wastegates on them for years and years, with smaller pulleys-it helps but does not do what a turbo does
@jacksonjdr94
@jacksonjdr94 2 жыл бұрын
Turbo guys are always drooling on themselves thinking they don't really have much turbo lag until they experience the instantaneous neck-snapping torque of a modern positive displacement supercharger. They both have their place, they both do different things better than the other. It's also important to remember that dynos aren't actually even close to being able to accurately simulate the load of an actual car, and initial boost response is heavily dependent on that in a turbocharged application.

Here's how it is! Lol end of discussion... if you have a heavy 3.08 gear car take the turbo for the low-end torque. if you have a 2800 lb 5 speed car with 4.11 you're already going to have no traction down low and you'll be at 5k RPM before your foot is off cluch. So go with Rising boost. Prove me wrong. But probably go with something a little bit bigger than that weak-ass torqstorm
