when you heat up the metal (annealing) it softens the metal so its easier to Manipulate or reshape etc. once you begin to re-hammer the piece it eventually gets harder to work with, (this is called Work Hardening)or reshape or form(this is called Work Hardening),so then you have to anneal it yet again,to be able to easily work with it.

Excellent! I would recommend thin walled tubing, if you can find it. The wider the inner diameter, the heavier the tubing wall. After annealing tubing, don't place in cold water. Let it cool naturally, less chance of fracturing whatever metal you are using.
@Popnicute9 жыл бұрын
it's ok to quench copper while it's hot. in my experience if i waited for it to cool down naturally the copper has hardened a bit and not as soft as if i quench it while it's hot. in this video i used a thin walled copper tubing :)

Hi, liked your video, the thinnest copper tubing is DWV, it has a yellow stripe running down it, "M" has a red stripe. "L" has a blue then "K" which has a green stripe and is the thickest you can buy in a big box store or plumbing supply
@Popnicute10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info but from the chart I looked up DMV is not available for diameter 1" and under.
@asesinodedios189010 жыл бұрын
Yes, my mistake i didn't see where you stated you were only using 1" and under. As I watched your video I was already making one in my head from 1-1/2" for a wider band.

Looks way better than the plain copper bracelets sold in chemist shops etc. (sold as an aid to assist with rheumatism/arthritis, not sure how valid the claims are but a lot of folks claim they work) Just a note on the safety side, you should never hit 2 hammers to each other. Hammers have a hardened face, the hardening making them relatively brittle. Two hardened and relatively brittle objects struck together are liable to cause one or more surface to shoot shards of hardened steel outwards at high velocity. The possible shards will pierce skin or take out an eye, even safety glasses may not offer adequate protection.
@Popnicute9 жыл бұрын
no worries, the other hammer is a nylon face hammer :)

Thanks for ur reply. I just have to order me some then. Here in Japan it's hard to find copper tubing or pipes. Seems like they use mostly aluminium. Hey Miss Pop would u happen to know if I try to ball up aluminium wire with torch if it would work like how u would do copper or silver wire ball head pins? I'm afraid it would not work. What is ur opinion on balling up aluminum wire? Thanks!
@Popnicute10 жыл бұрын
I think you're not supposed to heat aluminum (toxic fumes or something) but I could be wrong. Check google on that subject. I've never worked with aluminum before except for some prefab rivets.

What kind of finish do you put on it to keep from tarnishing? And what is the “ pickling bath”?
@Popnicute3 жыл бұрын
I don't coat my copper pieces. My customers know and embrace the natural patina on copper. I also provide them with a polishing pad with every purchase. Picking bath is just water mixed with PH down (the pool additive powder). It will clean the firescale from your recently fired non ferrous metal.
@matthewbittenbender91918 жыл бұрын
What's the most environmentally friendly way to dispose of used pickle? How often does one need to change/recharge the pickle solution?
@Popnicute8 жыл бұрын
You will need to neutralize it with baking soda and let it to evaporate in a plastic tub. When the tub is full you need to bring it to the hazardous material disposal plant as it includes copper that's no longer safe for the environment. However, I usually just add water and more PH down to my pickle when it gets dryer or felt like it takes longer to react. It can last forever.

Hi Miss Popnicute, what do u use to seal the bracelets? Do u use any varnish or protectants at all n if it is even necessary at all? Beautiful work!
@Popnicute10 жыл бұрын
Hi Diana, I don't seal my copper. I embrace the patina ;) It's not necessary to seal copper. Sometimes it will leave green marks on our skin but that's a natural reaction to copper due to the acidity level of your skin/sweat. Just wipe the smudges with wet wipes or wash your skin with soap. The more you wear copper, the more your skin is adapted to it and the marks it leaves become less and less. If you're allergic to copper, you can spray clear spray on your copper pieces or dip them to liquid sealer. 2 sealers I heard a lot of people use are ProtectaClear & Nikolas Lacquer.

@Popnicute10 жыл бұрын
It's fired until the copper is glowing orange. You can try firing with a gas oven if you don't own a torch. Please don't touch hot metal with bare hands. Use a metal tong/cheap pliers to handle hot metal.

Does copper react badly to people's skin? Also is there a coating like a jewlery coating I can use to prevent the copper pipe from getting grimy again after polishing?
@Popnicute9 жыл бұрын
skyward360 copper doesn't react badly on skin unless you're allergic to it. Many people use Protecta Clear to coat copper but I never coat mine. If it's dirty use soap and/or baking soda to clean it.

I've been making cuffs like this for the last few years just not with this texture. I found them very heavy and that women don't want to buy them because they are so heavy. Do you have any suggestions on how to make it lighter?
@Popnicute10 жыл бұрын
If you dislike the weight, You could use the more traditional method to do this with a folded copper sheet instead of tubing so you could cut out the parts that aren't textured. I, personally, like the weight. I don't think it's too heavy for me. The 6 inch cuff made out of 3/4 inch tubing weighs about 2.3 oz and the ones made out of 1/2 inch is only 1.3 oz.
