Thanks for this great idea ! I'd love to see a video of you cutting the cakes so we can see how you cut through the chocolate & see what the inside of the cake looks like. PS. Nice to hear an Aussie accent! :)
@ItsAPieceOfCake Жыл бұрын
Hi KZbinr, I will do that. Normally, the cakes I make on these tutorials I give them to family and friends just to avoid wasting. But to cut through chocolate cased cake, you have to have your knife sitting in a glass on boiled water for about 10 seconds to get the blade hot, then it slicing and melts the chocolate layers beautifully. I will soon make a tutorial just to show you.

So for the powder. You spray non stick spray on the top of the chocolate mold and then just brush the powder with the brush ? You don't need to infuse it with vodka or lemon juice ??

Looking very very nice! I have one question though: Isn't it hard to cut the cake when there are two layers of hard chocolate around it?
@ItsAPieceOfCake5 жыл бұрын
yes chocolate shatters when you cut it. But if you leave your knife in a large cup filled with kettle boiled hot water for about 20seconds it heats the blade and when you use the hot blade it will give you a very smooth cut as the heat very quickly melts the chocolate. lots of videos you see on Facebook and youtube the knife has been heated thats how they get the smooth cut...

@ItsAPieceOfCake3 жыл бұрын
Well if you bake the cake in the silicone mould then you should get a perfect fit but if you bake the cake on a sheet pan then use the mould to outline the shape then cut a little more off so gives enough room for ganache or buttercream...

So these moulds only work on chocolate exterior-cakes?
@ItsAPieceOfCake Жыл бұрын
Hi Tatjana, No, you can bake cakes in them too. Most silicone moulds are over safe, so when you have baked your cake, you can cover with fondant. The detailing will not be as precise as using chocolate, but if you save you from craving and shaping.

@ItsAPieceOfCake4 жыл бұрын
I didnt understand that? if you want like a runny soft chocolate then instead of a ganache make or use a store bought chocolate sauce. Or just make a rim of ganache then fill the centre with ganache with a higher cream ratio that way it will not firm up?

@ItsAPieceOfCake Жыл бұрын
Hi Lina, I know its 1 year later and maybe useless now, but maybe someone else may also read this in the future and can help them too. Normally, to colour chocolate black, you would be better off to start with dark or milk chocolate because it's already brown. You won't need much black food and colour powder to get it to black. If you're using white chocolate, then you will need a lot of black food colour powder to keep whisking through.
