Such a typical Khmer mom... While he's carmelizing the sugar, she's just repeating to him: If it burns, it'll be bitter. If it burns, it'll be bitter... lol I'm dying Btw, I would add the soy sauce first and then carmelize the sugar. My mom has me do it that way! great video!

Thanks for the video. I've always wonder how this was made. I live too far from my mom to go over and eat now, so I have been learning how to cook all the khmer dishes by watching youtube videos.
@evaeden4eva11 жыл бұрын
I just made Kor Sach Chrouk and it's delicious! I didn't have star anise and almost messed up with carmelising the sugar but remember not to burn it. But the final outcome was good! I also cooked for about 1.5 hrs and the meat is super tender and almost all the water in the pot evaporated. I'm going to store the rest in the fridge and eat it tomorrow and see if it tastes even better! Thank you and your mom for this recipe!

Enough to cover the meat and eggs and then some since you'll be boiling it for an hour or more. Depends on type of pot you use as well. The pot we used ratains alot of heat.

When we make this based on my Vietnamrse mother-in-law or her family's recipe, we use coconut soda and coconut milk which gives it a very rich flavor. I guess like a "cream of" style soup. The recipes I've seen online seem to be more broth based and look delicious as well. Do you know if the way she makes it is something traditionally eaten in Vietbam? Thanks

Can anyone help? I made this last night for the first time, everything came out good except that I think I might have put to much water. The broth is a little bland. How can I fix it? Mine also did not come out to dark in color. I would really appreciate the help as I made this for my boyfriend who misses his moms cooking. Thanks. PS I love this video. Thank you so much for sharing. I can't wait to try some more Cambodian cooking :)

If you added too much water, just let it boil longer. The extra water will evaporate leaving all the flavor in the soup.
@natetim7935 жыл бұрын
Or you can add more soy sauce or sugar to your liking. My mom does that.
