What kind of apples do YOU use when making applesauce? 🍎🍏😎
@Emerald_Acre_OH Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I grew up canning with my mom. But this year is my first time attempting it on my own. I made apple sauce, and am going to make apple butter next. Thanks again!

Thank You for the demo! This product will take the hours of peeling apples, even with the peeler! My husbands favorite is "smooth" applesauce!

Thank you, Cathy! Means a lot coming from a pro-canner like yourself. :) This process was still a lot of work but the strainer made life SO much easier. We just got our hands on some pears so we'll see what kind of preserving we can do with those next.

Love my applesauce as the spread on top of toaster waffles. Sure for the purist you can make waffle batter like my mom did, but then again I'm an old widower who rarely cooked until I needed to add that skill set to pick up the slack or lack thereof.

The strainer attachment for the Kitchen Aid stand mixer works as well.

First thing I canned since my grandmother passing away in 1995 was tomatoes from our garden last year. then A friend of ours donated several hundred mason jars and we got busy. We give canned goods and jam to friends and family and neighbors for gifts. Pickled beets and Chow Chow and Bread and Butter pickles are a welcome side dish to any meal. I got a lot of sauerkraut to can in a few weeks, would prefer out of the crock for the probiotics but it's too easy to forget about the crock after you ate pork and kraut so much you want a break lol 😁

Hooray, it's a canning week! I really need to get a camp stove. Trying to can on a ceramic top stove is a joke--It takes forever to heat up that much water!
@Aprons.Overalls2 жыл бұрын
Amen! We have an electric stove too and found a great deal on that outdoor camping stove and it came with a 40qt stock pot. It's been a life saver until we're ready to upgrade the kitchen stove to gas.

Shouldn’t the seeds be removed so that it’s safe from cyanide?

Awesome Video. I have 2 questions. 1. Does that machine have other uses besides applesauce? 2. What was the darker colored area on the bottom of the jars? Say hi to Charlie for us! He has the right idea!

tomatoes too!
@Aprons.Overalls2 жыл бұрын
You can use it for many things. Tomatoes are one of the main items, as Cathy said. We bought an accessory kit that has additional screens so we can use it for berries too. Screening our mulberries was quite the chore for making jelly this spring but next year it's going to be so much easier. I've got links to all the items in the description. The version with the plastic hopper is much cheaper. We would gladly pay more for one of these after seeing how much time they save! The dark part is just some liquid in the applesauce, similar to what you see at the top when you open a jar from the store. A lot of items with canning appear to look that way while in the jar. You just have to give it a good stir when you are ready to use it.

I've used my Squeezo mill to make crab apple fruit leather in addition to apple sauce.

My applesauce slightly browned on top after sealing. R they ok? Also the mixture settled down and some crevices opened up on the side of the jars after canning despite my pummeling with a plastic knife. R they ok for u think?

I am somewhat new to canning. This is a really nice video. I followed the Ball canning book as well for my applesauce but is calls for 12 pounds of cored peeled and cut apples. I use the victorio strainer looks similar to what you used to do the apples. Do you weigh the apples to know how much lemon juice to use. Also, I bought the salsa attachment for the victorio and it was perfect. Thank you!!!
@Aprons.Overalls2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I did weigh the apples after I cut them into 4ths. I didn't add the lemon juice until after running them through the strainer though. I probably ended up using a bit more than I needed but you can't taste the lemon juice at all.

Yah, I can tell this is absolutely organic apples. No coated with toxic chemicals. The apple I could use is from the store, which is heavily sprayed with insecticide and than coated, so I need to peal them.

How much lemon in a whole pot
@lincolnmaniac2 жыл бұрын
well this is weird, i get your questions but your vids not in the subscription uploads. I do my applesauce a little different, peel and core the apples, the cores and peels i give to the neighbors chickens. mom says it's a cleaner product. I get seconds apples from the farmers market for 7 dollars for 25 pounds. we add cinnamon. I got a really good recipe for Pa Dutch apple butter if you want it.
@Aprons.Overalls2 жыл бұрын
That's strange. We've had similar issues with some channels we subscribe to. All chickens agree - applesauce season is the best! ;)

It's a great little stove - especially if you don't have gas in your primary kitchen.
