How to Make Cardboard Stairs for Warhammer 40K, Necromunda and Kill Team

Ahoy! In this video I'll share my favorite method of making stairs for Warhammer 40,000, which can of course also be used for games like Necromunda and Kill Team.
If you're like me, you often end up playing games where the upper levels of terrain aren't really used, because it eats up a lot of movement to get your infantry there. So maybe a unit of snipers might deploy there or a unit will deepstrike in and stay there for the duration of the game. Rarely will the opponent send close combat units to fight them and instead opt to taking potshots at them. This makes for a less dynamic game. So, these stairs are a great addition to your wargames terrain, because they'll help alleviate that problem.
Have fun! :-)

Great little tutorial explaining something that others just pass over quite quick. Even the little note about not bothering with handrails because they get damaged is a wonderful point. Keep up the good work!

Lol, all I could think of when you ask about H&S inspectors in 40k was I'm sure there's a bunch of Inquisitors with clipboards somewhere. Great tutorial, your attention to detail is superb, the idea to make it so the bases fit into the steps is brilliant.

Ha ha, thanks. That's high praise. :-) Sure, my plan is to alternate between simple builds and some bigger projects, so there's bound to be some scatter terrain in there.

Nice work. I fumbled my way through my first set of stairs last week before I saw this video. I essentially used the same protocol but you made yours look so much easier in the video. I agree that the small steps look better than the bulky one-inch blocks that are often used as stairs. Cheers,

Really really great video! I would certainly enjoy a video in which you show how you paint your terrain to achieve that really cool weathered look. I hope that more people feel the same way.
@thecultofcrafting
@thecultofcrafting 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, happy you like it. :-) My next video will cover some weathering, though not these particular techniques. There are a lot of different ways of doing rust and chipping. I'm thinking of maybe doing a video on the subject. The methods I used for the stairs was: - Chipping Medium and airbrush for the chipped paint - Enamel paints for the streaking effects - Pigments for the more faded parts I was kinda just messing about, because I hadn't played with them for a while. Most people don't have these in their collection, so I didn't want to go into it in this video. You could probably get similar results by stippling with a piece of sponge and making streaks with very thinned down acrylic paints. :-) Oh, and anything brown or orange will probably work. And they look best on a light and contrasting color.
