Great video. I would have loved to see some playing on the board at the end… show off how well it works.

Is 180 sanding enough for the coins to move well? I sanded butcher block recently with 180 for a desk and just touching it feels like it might not be smooth enough. Can you put a video showing how it plays. Thanks
@ArshIsh
@ArshIsh 2 жыл бұрын
I felt it was good enough in my case. The plywood I used was smooth enough to begin with. In case you feel it is not smooth, you can always use higher grit sand paper. Also, the coating(s) will fill up the gaps in plywood as well. Sanding after the first coat will make it more smooth. I have seen none of the carrom boards available in the market are super smooth. That was one of the reason I did smooth the surface a lot. Secondly, we put powder on top to make the surface smooth as well. The carrom board is almost a year old now. So far I do not see any issue with the surface (it actually fell down from the bed with some minor dent to the border). I will try to make a video showing its current condition and how it plays asap.

Great job! Looks very nice. Are you not worried about warping? Is that why you chose thick plywood (looks like 3/4")? My carrom board seems to be made of 1/4 ply and has a support grid at the back.

If I keep it safe from water/moisture and heat, that won't be an issue. Definitely a thick one would be more strong (I just choose a thick one because I don't like thin plywood). I did buy 1 by 4 inch wood for the back side. However, later I realized that would just spoil the look. Also, I wanted the design to be simple and easy to build.

That is some immaculate work!! How is it holding up after a year? And did you use treated wood?
@ArshIsh
@ArshIsh 2 жыл бұрын
No, I did not use treated wood. The carrom board fell on the floor once and it was able to take the impact quite well. So far it is in a very good condition and I believe it will last years.

video is very good but how about the board performance ?
@redhulk12

not good by looking at it, the borders he made are not good to make good rebound of striker, atleast 3 inches border is required for a good play and it should not be pasted like that u can check professional carrom makers videos for reference like siscaa or synco

bro, what's the purpose of using danish oil??????
@ArshIsh
@ArshIsh 3 жыл бұрын
It is just to give the board/wood a nice finish (I personally like danish oil). If you want, you can try other options like tung oil, beeswax polish or something else. I used natural color danish oil to bring out the original colors or texture of the board/wood. Danish oil also adds some protection (there can be alternatives that may provide some or better protection than danish oil) from water and moisture as it seeps into the wood and hardens - usually take a few days or more for it to cure and dry underneath the surface and deep inside the wood.

Technically the diameter should be 4.45cm. Using the tools I had, I could only make a hole with diameter around 4.4cm.

Sure, you seem to be more experienced. This video is more for beginners (DIYers) - people with no woodworking experience/tools and some spare wood at home. Just a couple of cuts and the board is ready.
