Hi everyone! I have had a lot of people ask me to make a video showing how to make cavaletti. And I have to be honest, I had seen a lot of different ways to do this, and I just didn't think I could do it. That is until I saw I found this on Pinterest, and then followed the pin to the website, The Other Horse: theotherhorse.wordpress.com/2...
And the instructions were so simple and straightforward, I thought I would give it a try. And the results were so great! These are so easy to make and very affordable. Each cavaletti cost $20.00 to build. This included the paint, 2 x 4's, screws and painter's caulk. If you didn't paint or caulk the cavaletti, you could do it for around $17.00 each piece. I already had the paint and caulk, so they cost me around $50.00 to build the set of three.
I did tweek the original plan a little, because I like to measure everything in equal increments. So my 2 x 4 X's were 24" long, and the little side pieces were 10" long. It did create a small amount of waste, but it was simple.
If you have always wanted some cavaletti, I promise you, you can do this! I am so happy I finally did it! Thank you to all of you guys for asking me to make these! I think they turned out great, and so far the horses are really enjoying them, well, I am enjoying riding my horses over them!

Those cavalettis are amazing! I love how you added the sanding part... it was so helpful! I really wish I owned a horse so I had a reason to make these(I do lease one though...)! I just subscribed to your channel! I am planning to make one of these as a gift for my old jump instructor because she is leaving, and this was a perfect idea! Super simple and easy, and so much decorating potential! I am a huge collector, and would probably end up making like a hundred of these all with their own specific design. I love you and your channel, and wish you more subscribers... you deserve them!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your easy to follow instructions... these will be much easier to build than using 4x4's. I am so excited about getting them built for our cowboy/cowgirl challenge course.

Would LOVE some ideas on building an easy and portable (so not too heavy) corner jump. It doesn't necessarily need to be 8 ft in length. I have seen shorter versions in several xcountry jumping videos. Thank you for the liverpool and cavaletti ideas! I enjoy building jumps for my horse. We have a wall, coop, brush box, skinny ramp, arrow, and chevron at home. We did have a rolltop, but it only lasted a couple years (repurposed the planks to build the chevron). Your videos are so well done. Looking forward to more building! 😊

Okay I like how you can make it lower and higher and stuff but it’s just too dangerous to screw the pole into the x. Some horses can trip and hurt themselves and potentially the rider aswell but I’m most definitely going to make these! 💕 I’m just not going to attach the long middle piece to the x. Thanks for the video!

Hey, did you already build your cavaletti? Is it "stable" enough if you don't screw it all together? Sorry if my English is bad.

There is a book called cavalletti it shows lots of ways to use them both while riding and while lunging your horse it’s worth finding a copy it was not a expensive book at all it may even have been a pony club association publication

The reason you use 4 x 4’s and not two by fours is four by fours pressure treated are rated for ground contact that Cavaletti jump you made will rot

That’s super job, thank u for sharing. I love the fact that u can get 3 different heights out of one cavaletti, is that correct? What is the weight of one cavaletti please? Can it be easily carried in and out the arena for storage?

Hi Catherine 🙂 They are lightweight, I am not sure how much exactly they weigh, but I would say between 10 and 15 lbs? Easy to move an maneuver 🙂🙂🙂
