Teach your dog the broad jump, in this dog training video lesson I show you all the basics to teaching your dog the broad jump. The broad jump is different from the high jump because the dog needs to cover distance in length as opposed to height. This can be difficult to teach, but I break the basics down in this video.
The full length video with some more great secrets is available on my member section:
robertcabral.com
along with many other valuable lessons and training tips that will make your relationship with your dog much much better and more productive.

Cute little anecdote. I was watching this video on TV. My 8mo. GS was laying on the floor chewing on a toy. When Goofy appeared on the screen my puppy stood up and stared at the screen. When you told Goofy to sit, my puppy sat, and continued to watch the video. I thought I'd share that with you. Love your videos.

Yes. Even some of my shelter dogs learn to jump thru a hula hoop in minutes, the broad jump is tougher. Taught 2 cats to do the hoop too. Keep up your sensational work.

Cool k9 sport. Goofy is an awesome athlete. Our 2.5 yr gsd began occasionally long-jumping (about 6-7 feet) over one of our flower beds this summer (her short-cut when squirrel chasing). A week ago, I decided to block that path, because it looked risky with the rock edging surround. So, now I'm inspired to buy the PVC materials to set up a jump like yours. She's doing the hula hoop jumps very well.

Really, Robert, I rescued a 50% Malinois/50% Siberian Husky and I am so very grateful for your amazing Goofy and training advice. You really helped me with Beanie’s ( as in ‘jumping bean’ and ‘full of beans’) first year+. Thank you. She is amazingly smart and willing but still stranger shy at first, and chaser of chip monks NH JoDe +4

... Love the video and the training tips ... Love seeing Goofy, my two female GSD think he's handsome ☺... They go looking for him when I ask, "Where's GOOFY, is he here?" ... (I'm not going to Hades for doing that, Am I?😉)...

I love you Channel congratulation... very lovely advices and wise. I have the most amazing puppy, you will not believe if I tell you that he obey all the commands that I learned on your chanel at first whidout a treat...( he don't care about the treats yet just love his food and the mozzarella sticks from trade Joe's), he alread trooped and Leave it ... and enjoy the good cage just for the cheeses... Dexter sounds like unsderstaing everything... He's very obedient puppy and he love all your lessons. He's a chow chow puppy 9 weeks very intelligent and tender... Dont bark just observes everything... the only difficulty we are having is that he loves pii in the bedroom that has carpet ... and I dont know what to say or do because it's not in your chanel... but he also learned fast on how to use the artificial grass pet that I have at porch. He just can't resist at bedroom carpets. He's not going out yet Doctors orders. Doctor said just in January because Camarillo has lot of fleas and etc. God bless you. My love to you all. Adriana

Do you think German shepherds needs to wait at least a year to be spayed or neutered for their growth plates to close or can they be spayed/neutered before 6 months like is usually recommended by vets?

Is there a video on the steps to follow to fade the bar placed in front of the BJ over time? Do you use anything smaller, or how do you keep the dog jumping HIGH over the BJ for competition purposes? Thanks! Great video.

Nice, we were able to train our female Husky and male Akita to jump into the back of our SUV, which is a good height. However, they wouldn't jump over a guard rail when we went exploring. The husky crawled under it but the Akita was too big and I ended up having to carry him over.....I don't want to have to do that again. It was dark and it was also on a corner with other guard rails so the distance was about a foot wide but only two feet high. He jumps higher when getting into the vehicle....was this fear of the unknown as he is unfamiliar? He is a bit antsy/fearful/nervous when encountering new experiences, not a lot but I can see the caution. Our oldest male dog has no fear whatsoever, or he just doesn't show it.

Hi Robert, thank you for your videos, I have a question, at what age (for a german Shepard puppy), is it "ok" to start teaching her, sit, stay, down, its "name" coming on call etc? Also, I have heard, that when you sitt on soffa or so, hug your dog, and keep her there, she will start barking/making noises, cause she wants to get of, but you resist and hold her till she gives up and falls asleep, It might take 1hr first time, and alot of "resisting going on", but it will be shorter and less the more you do, what is your thought on that?

@@RobertCabralDogs I like the fact that you haven't gone the complete fad "Spector" route. I don't think anyone trained as many dogs in person as Koehler and no one has equaled the UD titles of Strickland.

Hello. So, we are getting a puppy in about 1-2 weeks (Beagle). We will keep him indoors and I would have known the answer to this question if I lived on the first floor, but sadly I live on the second floor. How do I deal with dog poop? I can't take him out and there are no dog crates in pet shops. Please, help me. And no, I can't keep him on the first floor becauae only the second floor is ours, long story. Anyways, please help.

you'll need to find a way to crate him or confine him and take him out often.

hey, my dog would run around the jump, what do you recommend to discourage that?
@Emily91992
@Emily91992 Жыл бұрын
My dog did the same, but I found out a way to stop it. It’s probably not the best idea but it worked for me. I held my dog by the collar, and showed her a treat in my hand. I threw it over the jump, where someone else was standing. Then if she went around it, I would get the other person to pick the treat up. Soon enough she found out the only way to get the treat was to go over the jump.

How would you eliminate a behavior like scratching Doors..? Would you use a e-collar? Thank you, btw, love your videos❤️
@spacecoastdogtrainer3778
@spacecoastdogtrainer3778 4 жыл бұрын
You could use the e collar but I wouldn't recommend that in the beginning. I use e collars a lot and I always make sure the dog is conditioned to the e collar and is fluent in responding to the e collar when asked for known behaviors. If you have done that foundation with the dog then yes use the e collar. If not, Keep a long leash on the dog, when he scratches, ask for a known alternate behavior. If he complies, great. If not give him a verbal "no reward marker" and correct with the leash if necessary. If the dog is scratching at the door when you are out of the room/house, simply ensure the dog is crated if you are leaving for a long period....Then practice leaving for a short time (a few seconds) and if he doesn't scratch, mark and reward. Then just practice leaving for longer periods of time.
