I absolutely love watching your videos..I have often searched for tutorials on neutral colours for landscapes with a limited palette.. please could you do a video on your favourite "go to" neutral earthy colours, how to mix them, and what do you love using? I've subscribed and think your style, methods and techniques are truly inspiring.. pls keep making them 😀 xx

You are in luck as I just made a video on my favorite "go to" neutrals and how I mix them. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3XQlnynq7yres0 Thanks for watching :-)

Very good! After we get past monochrome and grisaille paintings, I take black away from my students and teach them why their mixtures will be so much more interesting without it.

This is great!! could you explain how to do the opposite, make colours lighter without white? or is this ok to do?

Thank you for the informative video! How should one darken a teal colour? Let's say you mix 50/50 blue and green but want to also have a darker shade available for details; what would be the correct way to darken the 50/50 mix?

Can you just add a smaller amount of red instead of orange seeing as the paint is already yellow because I'm trying to work out how you'd do this with just a set of RYB Colors to simplify the process as I am a begginer and having 60 tubs of paints gets so confusing for me

Yes you can

I’ve been getting very frustrated by light vs dark colors for a sorta different reason. I have this down very confidently, but when I’m looking at something I’m painting and trying to determine which colors to make, I can never tell which shades are darker or lighter and it makes me have no idea how to mix it. For example, looking at a leaf and seeing two very similar shades of green. I make one, but then I don’t know how to mix the other because I can’t tell if it’s lighter or darker than the first. Does anyone else have this problem?

Is it really about warm vs cool greens? Check by mixing colour and use a laminated photo or a plastic cover on top of a photo of your subject. The lightest greens are usually facing the light source and darker greens are often muted.

When I took acrylic and oil painting classes we never used black.
