Struggling to become fluent Spanish, but you have made some things very clear. I work in a Spanish Immersion classroom (first grade), but am not required to know Spanish. I know basic things and say as much as I know how to say. This is really helping me with some things I have struggled with and so much makes sense. I still overthink everything, so I will need to absorb this several times. Thank you for making these videos. I am enjoying them.

He used the plural indirect object pronoun. When we use le(s), there is the option of including a clarifying prepositional phrase that starts with a and ends with a noun or pronoun to emphasize who that indirect object is because le(s) is quite ambiguous. It means to him, to her to usted, to them and to ustedes. In this case, it means to them. Explain it to them (to the children = to the children). Good luck.

@germanwithalinguist
@germanwithalinguist Ай бұрын
The "les" here is an indirect object (IO) pronoun, and it refers to "los niños". The Spanish indirect object pronoun has a tendancy to be redundant. Basically, when you specify an IO with "a + person/people", you [almost always, a few exceptions] must also include the IO pronoun, and this goes before the verb. Hope this helped!

I just watched this for the third time and realized I do not understand something. Let me say it and see if it is correct. In the formal, plural, and we form the positive the pronoun goes on the end of the verb. In the negative form it goes before the verb? Thank you for your answer.

I think it would be better for you to learn this kind of phrases "as a whole", I mean, without wondering what the role of every word in a sentence is.Just notice patterns. We use "se" instead of the object pronoun "le" in this case only to sound more "harmonic" in Spanish.That's called "se pasivo".For Spanish speakers, "se los" sounds more natural than "le los". And "los" refers to "dulces", which is the plural of "dulce" (candy).

Danny you forgot to include the irregular verbs (ser, ir, venir, tener, decir, poner, salir) in the "tu" negative form and in the usted form (both affirmative and negative).

Danny, I love your lessons. I’m hoping you will help me with my question. In one of the examples you used tráigamelo as a formal command, meaning bring it to me. But I would have thought that it should have been tráemelo. Both seem to translate to the same meaning! So, I’m confused why you used the 1st person singular form of the verb, rather than the 3rd person singular. Thanks, Colleen

God, I sure wish I'd watched this video before I got to complicated commands on Duolingo! I was actually telling myself "Well, you're retired now & you can't afford to go to Spain so why bother?

Should the irregular informal command ir-vé have an accent or should it simply be ir-ve without an accent on the e?
@mathematix-rodcast
@mathematix-rodcast 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was wondering if anyone was going to ask this question. The irregular informal commands are monosyllabic (one syllable). So there are no other syllables to emphasize. So the accent is pointless and unused unless there is another monosyllabic word spelled identically. In the case of a monosyllabic word spelled identically, one of the two words will take an accent as an orthographic (spelling) convention to distinguish the one monosyllabic from the other. In the case of sé versus se, se always takes the accent when it is a verb as in so lo sé or Sé sincero. www.wordreference.com/conj/ESverbs.aspx?v=ir The link to WordReference's verb index is posted above and will open to the verb ir. Ve does not take an accent. The verb ver has a conjugation of ve too and its command is also ve as the affirmative informal command, which is identical in spelling to the informal affirmative ir command but paradoxically and unexpectedly, neither one is accentuated. www.wordreference.com/conj/ESverbs.aspx?v=ver. So, this is the exception to the rule but to answer your question simply, no, ve never takes an accent whether it is an affirmative command of the verbs ir or ver. So, in this case, it was a typographic error in his video. It happens and good catch on your part.. Good luck on your language learning journey! Enjoy the ride! It is a great language.

You're right about that! You have to learn the different sets one at a time. It would be nice if they just all followed the same rules.
