I need to make a grave marker and have worked with quickcrete making stepping stones before. I will be making the name before hand in a black quickcrete letting them fully cure then pressing the letters into the fresh un colored quickcrete. It will only be a small 12x12 grave marker to lay over my mothers grave until I can afford to purchase a real gravestone myself (her husband is too cheap to get one for her. As long as I put hardware cloth in the 12x12 cement block will the black letters run into the normal colored cement? Thankyou for your video!

Great job. Could I use this same technique to dye rapid set mortar whith which to repairing concrete steps and then make the black even darker by painting with dyed Portland cement paint a few days later?

@@senadgalijasevic8568 I didn't try it I just used RapidSet CementAll which worked tremendously. I didn't use mortar though just the blue bag and then a broom finish. May still go over the old and new with a dyed black coat of more RapidSet CementAll to make it all match

Is it possible to take that black dye and mix it with small amount of water and spray it on my existing concrete pool coping and then seal it with a deep penetrating sealer to darken it up???I ask because I poured my pool coping and it didnt come out as black as I wanted it

I would not try that. I think it would make a huge mess. Have you tried an epoxy sealer? They darken concrete the most. Test patch for sure but maybe that is an option. Failing that a concrete stain. But once you seal that is pretty much it.

No I havent tried anything yet,,what about adding some of that dye to the penetrating sealer I use and mix it well before spraying,,what do u think about that?

@@savage-pg2oh I think that would be a mistake. You shoud use methods that are tried and true, not experimental. You easily could have a problem. I think the most professional solution is an acid stain. It is permanent and temperamental to work with but could darken this. Next best is concrete stain so ypu can at least get predictable results. Then watered down acrylic paints. THEN, maybe, start experimenting lol. Pool coping is too big and permanent to mess around with. Also, let it cure 30 days before doing anything

Ok I appreciate it and I hear ya loud and clear,I dont want to end up with a disaster,,lookin to have a solid black tone and then seal with a deep penetrating sealer,,anything as far as a stain and sealer u might recommend from home depot or lowes,alot of black stains are transparent I've looked at ,looking for something that's more solid and consistant,,also I noticed alot of stains are more like paint and I wanna stay away from that type

Nothing that I can name. I can tell you that a store that specializes in paint is MILES ahead of the local big box hardware store. Not just for advice, but fornpaint quality. And for this job you want quality. I don't think you will get a stain that dark. You are describing paint but then saying not paint lol. I think acid stain is what you want but it's not DIY ND super permanent. You could easily end up with something you like less. Try an epoxy sealer on regular concrete ND go from there. Very dark look / wet look. Will not be black. You needed integral color or colored release agent / stamping. Now acid stain is one of your bolder options I think.
