Making sliver from surgical bt cotyon on your own is a great idea. It looks whiter than storebought sliver. But, it also looks really hard to do.

Is puni rolled parallel to the length of fiber or across the lenth of fiber? Please tell me

If you can roll the sliver parallel to the length of the fibres, it will ease in spinning yarn uninterrupted.

Is the process different if you use cotton balls? I am going to learn how to spin cotton this year or in 2021 at home. A lot of the resources for spinning nowadays are written for people who have easy access to prepared cotton fiber and spindles. I'm not one of those. I really appreciate that you make accessible guides like this. Thanks a lot.

If you are using processed cotton balls, you can directly start spinning yarn, but if they are not i would recommend to make the sliver. The video was made during the pandemic and so demonstrates techniques and resources limited to what is available at home.
