Thank you for sharing this video with us. I hadn't thought of magnets.

I used the magnet trick as well, and it works great! I used two pairs of slightly smaller/less powerful magnets, one on each end, rather than the one larger one in the center. It really doesn't matter either way, just thought I'd mention that does work as well. My loads are not wrapped; I still see plenty of lumber loads without any covering on them, so it's okay to do bare wood as well! One suggestion is to then wrap each of those loads with thread to simulate the tie-downs, without actually tying it to the car.

Oh I like the thread idea thanks!

You can use the depth gauge on the other end of the calipers to measure your depth. Loads look great!

Thanks need to have a second look at that

For Table Saw safety when doing small(thin) cuts on stock I use two different methods. 1. I cut a little more of the length of the board and then flip the board lengthwise so I always have a piece of the wood to hold on to for control, 2. I use put the wide side of the wood against the fence using the offal side of the cut as the side that is good for the project. Modelers should search cutting thin strips on You Tube.

This is great! I need to get some of these cars and make some loads. Would be cool to have some loads where the paper has torn away a bit.
@cpwhiskycreek Жыл бұрын
that would be a great effect!

A great idea but you do not need to use 2 magnets per load.. only 1 magnet and a piece of metal will do the job and then you have another magnet for another load. The other thing I have done is cut multiple thin strips and then glue them together to make up a load or run a pencil or very thin black marker over the timber to give the effect of separate lengths.

Thanks for the video, great idea should lower some costs of model railroading. I believe a lumber load in HO scale is at least $16 Canadian plus the tax from the hobby stores. Is there a link to the site to print off the lumber wrap for the loads?

If you can save money on one part of the hobby, that means more money for other stuff! I got the graphics here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:5686916

This is a great way to create some center beam loads. Where did you get the load covering print pix? Thanks

I made some n scale lumber loads for the same car using small dimension bass wood strips at Hobby Lobby. Avoided sawing.
