How to make Customized Mugs in minutes (Using Resin)

I am so excited to be making another video for you guys on another way to make customized mugs. In the last video, I demonstrated how to make custom mugs using the BAKING METHOD. In this video, I demonstrate how to make mugs and seal them in a different way - It's super easy and only takes a matter of minutes.

I was researching the Cricut mug press when I came across your tutorials. I have to say your presentation is so excellent. Way too many KZbinrs over-explain processes or seemingly talk to just hear themselves talk. However, you explain the process as if we are sitting in the room with you and you are just walking us through the process. THANK YOU for that. Also, thank you for not starting your videos with "What's up everyone". UGH! It's like KZbin has a generic script that most people follow. haha KZbinrs could learn a lot watching your videos on how to present topics. So, I tried this method and I love that it’s time-saving and the process is simple (in theory). You m ke it look SUPER EASY!! However, my application of the resin needs work and practice. My first two came out just “okay” because of the intricacies of the design around the edges. Also because of my lack of experience with this method. Best believe I will be practicing more. Because this is a really quick way to crank out mugs.

I love this, you’re amazing. Thank you so much. I will be trying this. I’ve been making mugs with water slide decals but after all of my time and work I find the design can still come off. Years ago I put a layer of mod podge on a design which does not come off so I was wondering now if that same thing would work again but with the resin which could be a better thing to do! I want my designs to be permanent and I can not at this time purchase an expensive machine.

You are so welcome! With the resin method I have been able to use my mugs for years without worrying about the designs coming off. Other than resin, the beside alternative would be sublimation but that can be costly. Just make sure when using the resin that you use a little. A little goes a long way :)

Also I hand cut my designs. If you have more complex designs and want to use a cricut then you would just do a print then cut on the cricut design space :).

Could you bake it in the oven, and THEN apply the resin? Or does that matter at all? Also, does the resin leave any lumps or noticeable residue, or is it as smooth as the mug? Thanks

Hey ! The oven won't make any difference. My mugs are smooth and you can't tell where the resin starts and end. You got to apply a VERY thin layer. a little goes a long way. .

Looks like you don't need water slide paper to do this resin method. Even vinyl stickers will do. My question is, will the 2 part epoxy dry without dripping?

very true. I tried it with vinyl sticker as well and it came out great. I haven't had any problems with dripping especially since i put a thin layer of resin.

Yes. It dries super quick Less than 2 minutes for me. However, You can always pat dry with paper towel if you don’t want to wait :)).

Hey thank you so much for these videos. I'm trying to make a lot using your earlier technique, on my first two mugs I made I had some yellow circles, I think this is from the water still being stuck. But I'm using large pictures of people in my family, it's been kinda challenging for me to take the backs off of the paper since they're so big. Have you ever made any mugs with large pictures and if so do you have any techniques for easily removing the back of the paper?

Hey ! So in that case when the photo is pretty large you can reverse your image before printing. That way you can slide from the front instead of the back. Hope that helps

Ana Melendez-dejesus glad I could help. I would only suggest a cup turner if you plan to seal the entire cup .. but if you do it the way I did with only one image then you can just have the cup face up and let it dry

I was also wondering the same thing but then, I searched Amazon and there's a lot of 2 part resins that are food safe. I havent seen any UV resin that are food safe though but maybe because it is too new in the market to be fda approved.

You wouldn't want to use resin on cups that do not have a double wall cause the resin can sleep into the cup

Heat isn’t need to seal the resin .. however, you can use a heating gun if you see any air bubbles appear when applying the resin :-)
