How to Make Dango

In this video i'm going to teach you how to make Mitarashi and Hanari Dango! Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!

Recipe:
Dango ingredients:
1 cup of glutinous rice flour
3/4 cup of tofu (silken)
1 tsp of sugar
Mitarashi sauce ingredients:
1/4 cup of water
1 tbs of soy sauce
1 tbs of sugar
1/2 tbs of potato/corn starch
Info:
tofu (silken) - you don't have to include tofu in the recipe, it will have a different texture though.
potato starch - you can substitute this with cornstarch.
if your dough turns out too dry, add more water.
if your dough turns out too wet, add more rice flour.

I tried it and failed miserably. The biggest mistake? I bought by mistake gluten free rice flour. Secondly I think I did not make the dough properly as there were tiny pieces of tofu which did not make that nice soft edge. The boiled dango (even though two minutes after they were floating) were kinda chunky inside and like not cooked properly. So I hope next time I shall be more successfull. :)

BlackBunik I'm guessing you used firm or somewhere above soft tofu when you made it. It's supposed to be soft tofu or anything below that grade level. My favorite toppings for Dango are Grounded Black sesame (you can choose any type of sesame btw) with sugar. When i prepare the Black sesame seeds, I slightly roast them on the pan and then ground them via blender or that stone thing that pharmacy's use to grind things lol. then after they become grounded you add in some sugar to sweeten it. for the cooking part, It was probably due to: the tofu you used, you made it big = longer cooking time despite it floating up. for the size, I usually make mines smaller about the size of a quarter or a bit bigger in diameter. Just remember that the size of how you make it changes the cooking time. I just like making them smaller because it's faster to cook and it seems like you're eating more. Its better that way especially if you're making it for a party/potluck and just stick them on some mini skewers or toothpicks

I am using Silken tofu and mochiko bought at the asian store... though my dough is SUPER sticky , it's not becoming nice and smooth like in the video even if I keep mixing 😱 should I just add more Mochiko , until it look like the video ? I measured everything by weight ...

It is my second time making dango. On the first trial, it did not cook thoroughly from boiling. On the second trial, instead of boiling it, I steamed the dough. It ended up being very sticky and chewy. That's how I knew it was cooked, but it was hard to turn them into perfect balls because they were so sticky no matter how much I added water to prevent it. The Mitarashi soy sauce was okay, but I did not add mirin. Just sugar and potato starch. I've concluded that although dango is very adorable, I did not like the taste. It was fun making them though!

It's Ritu Its an anime which is well known as a tearjerker. One of the main character's (Nagisa) favorite song is Dango Daikazoku (translated: Great Dango Family) and she likes to collect Dango Plushies. I already watched the series and if you are into such anime categories, then i highly recommend it. First you want to watch "Clannad" and then the sequel "Clannad After Story" because the first one happens chronologically at first. The feelings and emotions will be much more intensive and you will understand their backstories.
