How to make Delicious Whole Masoor Dal | Easy, Healthy and Irresistibly Tasty

WHOLE MASOOR DAL RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
1 cup of whole masoor soaked for 4-5 hours
750 ml of water
1 tsp of ginger paste
1 medium sized onion finely chopped
1 medium sized tomato finely chopped
1” cinnamon stick
3 cloves
1 tsp of cumin seeds
2 bay leaves
7-8 peppercorns
3 red chillies
Salt to taste
1 tbsp of tamarind paste
1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
1 tsp of red chilli powder
3-4 tbsp of ghee
5 cloves of garlic crushed
1 tsp of cumin seeds
Few broken red chillies
Sprig of curry leaves
METHOD
Add 1 cup of whole masoor soaked for 4-5 hours in a cooker
To it add 750 ml of water
Add 1 tsp of ginger paste
1 medium sized onion finely chopped
Add 1 medium sized tomato finely chopped
1” cinnamon stick
3 cloves
1 tsp of cumin seeds
2 bay leaves
7-8 peppercorns
3 red chillies
Salt to taste
Give it a good mix and pressure cook it for 1 whistle
Add 1 tbsp of tamarind paste
Add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
1 tsp of red chilli powder
Give it a good mix
Boil the dal for 5-10 minutes
For tempering,
Heat 3-4 tbsp of ghee
Add 5 cloves of garlic crushed
Wait for them to change the colour to golden brown
Add 1 tsp of cumin seeds to it
Add a few broken red chillies
Mix it well
Add a few sprigs of curry leaves
Mix it
Add the tadka to the dal
Let the dal rest for 2-3 minutes before serving

Really delicious recipe Smita Ji. My family loves whole masoor and I run out of different ways to cook it. Also, I am bengali living in Boston, I paired the daal with bengali gobindobhog chaal (rice), really was just sumptuous. Thank you.

Great recipe. After the masoor dal is cooked and before doing baghaar, I usually add 3-4 dried kokum rinds for khatai (instead of imli paste) and do coal dhungar after the baghaar.

We make it 1st by boiling this Malka Masoor ki dal just with turmeric n salt then give tadka of onion tomatoes n masalas added. Enjoy it with Hot Steaming Rice n best combination of this Dal Chawal is with Aloo Parwal ki sukhi masaledar sabz without tomatoes. Smita ji, if u haven't tried do give a try. U will fall in love with this Trio. This is best n perfect combination it's eaten in Varanasi like this. 😊😊

I like whole masur lentil dal simple with just everyday masala like jeera dhania powder rather than whole garam masala and just a tadka with ghee jeera ,and lots of chopped garlic ,thats my wholesome everday comfort food.

Akha masoor is a speciality of Belgaum or Belgavi

Akkha Masur is a speciality of Islampur, Sangli. Belgaon can also claim Akkha Masur as it is part of Sangli and Kolhapur.
