The TV remote uses IR to change the channel so having an IR transparent case makes sense so it has a better chance of hitting the TVs receiver when not pointed directly at it.

I tried it with a very simple webcam and it didn't work. The IR filter in this case was round and it seemed that it had an additional function as some kind of pre-lense, because after having removed it the images became extremely blurred. CAN SOMEONE LET ME KNOW WHICH MODELS OF WEBCAMS WORK FOR THIS????
@johannesnel88753 жыл бұрын
I did comment on that filter that looks more like a UV filter to me (Pinkish purple) IR will be red and it will cause that you will only see back and white. Your camera is very sensitive to the UV range, the other side of the spectrum than IR. That cause the blurred picture, more like a "washed out" picture, and no way to focus it by adjusting the lens. That is exactly why photographers screw on an extra UV filter on the front of their cameras, not only to protect the main lens from dust and scratches. About all SLR cameras (Single Lens Reflect) like Nikon, Canon, already have a UV filter directly over the sensor,but adding one in the front of the lens do no harm, and add to the protection of an expensive lens.
@johannesnel88753 жыл бұрын
The filter you removed looks more like a UV filter (Ultra violet) some pinkish purple color. The IR filter is more like solid red. In any way, no matter what the range of that filter is, it make a incredible difference. I want to remove the filter out of an old SLR camera and replace it with a clear glass filter. Then I want to mount it on a telescope and see what kind of weird pictures we will get of the night sky. Just for interest, using a UV filter on a camera helps a lot to get a clearer picture. The sensor is sensitive to a little bit more UV than the human eye, and it cause a "washed out" look on the photos if it is not fitted with a UV filter, or a screw on UV filter is used on the lens. Thanks for this video, now I'm motivated again to get to that modification project on the SLR camera.

That's not true, NIR cut filters are cyan when looking through them, and has a reddish reflection; if you think about it, if a filter attenuates wavelengths close to red, how can it possibly look red-ish

I think that is how night vision cameras work. for something crude like this where the lens might not be quite as sensitive to IR, then maybe it'll only be very visible if there's infrared light being emitted from somewhere, like say if your chicken coop has a ceramic heat emitter on at night

The webcam I am using is called LifeCam VX-3000 (Microsoft). I'm almost certain that the filter was taken out. No, that is different. Thermal camera sense the heat that the body emit, and very expensive. This is IR and pick up reflected light in the IR range. Somewhat of the same thing but not really. To go technical on that will be a long story. With a thermal camera you will see no real good picture, but just grading of heat differences.

I wonder if this could detect ghosts, I am looking for a ghosts detector schematic if you know of one. Some say they pick up magnetic field with store bought ones. Would be fantastic if you could make one to show us. Many people are trying to make them. I have a old 16 channel dvr with lots of cameras to try this one. My new high definition cameras replaced them but now they have 1080p out so when this dvr goes out I will upgrade. But the old 420 fps camera's are not being used so will try this project. If heat is required I don't think ghosts give off heat. But sounds like a fun project anyways. Thanks for all your video's.
@ElectricalPro6 жыл бұрын
I personally don't believe in ghosts, but even if I did, I don't know what to look for. There is a lot of spectrum to look for, starting with sound waves, and radio waves and ending with x-rays and other stuff, some equipment will be pretty cheap and some will be hugely expensive. I only heard that people use static electricity detectors for that. But I don't know much about ghosts detection.
