So gona try this, been making a simple butter for my grandsons skin, just shea, cocoa, vit e and almond oil , been looking to find something for my daughter she's had eczema all her life, she hates the creams with 101 different chemicals in, the last one I made was same base as this with coconut and neem oil to help the itch, she found it quite heavy feeling, she like it when it acts like this type of lotion you made here, but again most have chemicals , this would be a good night out lotion for her though , good job .

So should I lessen the amount to 4g? Or is me using the silica and Olivem make a difference in the outcome as well?

Looove this one! I added a bit cinnamon, nutmeg and clove for a xmas-editon and its amazing. I also added a bit of shea, i guess just for fun? I now made one without shimmer, so ditched the mica's. It doesnt get smoothe somehow, eventhough i remelted and recooled it a few times. It smeers great, but looks a bit like applesauce. I now see I forgot my serecite mica (dont have microspherese yet (will order today!)). Would it be the serecite mica or the shea that makes it behave like this? What do you think?

This recipe looks phenomenal! Would you say the Olivem 300 and cetyl alcohol are safe to use in a glowy formula like this adapted for the face? (cheekbones) or would either be too sensitizing? Also if you could recommend a good preservative to use with them I'd be eternally grateful!
@HumblebeeAndMe

Definitely! You might be more interested in something made specifically for the face, though, like this: www.humblebeeandme.com/snowy-dawn-cream-luminizer/. You don't need a preservative for any of these projects as they do not contain any water, but generally speaking liquid germall plus is great!

@@HumblebeeAndMe Hey there I was wondering if it would be plausible (I don't know much about chemistry myself) to try to go for a "colour changing magick potion" style bath or body oil. The versions online are all just props using alcohol, but I was wondering if it would be possible to make it in an oil form where you can shake the bottle to cause a colour change effect and it will settle again and again. It sounds feasible since you said mica tends to settle? I guess the other concern is whether or not this is something you want to take a bath with and etc etc but I sort of just want to know if it's possible at all! lol

Hi Marie, I just have a fee questions. Is this waterproof? Like when you go for a swim, will this stay on my skin and won’t look patchy? And will it stain my clothes? Thank you so much!
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
It's definitely not waterproof in any way, and if you put a ton of it on (or add a ton of mica), you're going to end up with a lot of mica on your clothes. A little shimmer won't be noticeable on clothes and will wash out, but if you're looking for a DIY alternative to self tanner, this isn't it at all.

She explains it in the blog post. "I didn’t design this strictly as a shower oil, but when I started to think about when I’d actually apply such a thing, I figured chances were fairly high it’d be after a shower. With that in mind, I added a bit of Olivem 300. Olivem 300 is a lovely, lightweight, water soluble ester of oleic acid, so not only does it help contribute to the lightweight feel of the oil, it means that if you apply the oil with damp skin, it’ll self-emulsify with the water on your skin, turning into lotion! Groovy, eh?" -Marie She siad you can replace it with an equal weight of apricot oil if you don't have it.

I definitely looooove your channel! Your are litterally answering each day all my interrogations when it comes to formulating natural cosmetincs! Silly question do the micas transfer on clothes? Also about you cocoa butter foaming bath milk, do you actually have or are planning a video about a foaming whipped butter ?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, mica will transfer to the clothes, though this is typically not an issue in body products such as this one unless you are using huge amounts as they are not very highly pigmented. I've never made a foaming whipped body butter!

Humblebee & Me waiting for the day you' ll make it! For the mica yes I think I'll put plenty of it to make it an highlighter actually, that can be used both on the face and body. Thanks for your answer and for sharing!

This is super cool. But are there any known side effects of using unnatural ingredients such as the brown powder colouring or the microchips? X
@sweetpeachbellini8245
@sweetpeachbellini8245 7 жыл бұрын
Alex, the mica powders are perfectly safe to use. They've been used by mainstream makeup/skincare for a long time. It took me two seconds to google this info. simplebeautyminerals.com/musings/mica-in-mineral-makeup-is-it-safe/ Also, the silica microspheres are also perfectly safe.

Is there anything that can be used instead of silica? That stuff costs an arm and a leg lol. Can arrowroot powder be used in its place for the same feel?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
In a product like this arrowroot starch, corn starch, or isopropyl myristate would give a similar feel :)

Hey Marie! Can you use silica microspheres in body butter?
@HumblebeeAndMe

You could, but you'd also get a similar effect from including cornstarch for a far lower cost :)

Do you know a substitute for mica?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you're trying to do; glitter also offers sparkle, but the particles are much larger and they tend to be microplastics, which aren't awesome.

This isn't really the recipe for that-if you put a ton of mica in this you'll just end up leaving a ton of mica on all your clothes and furniture.

does anyone know if you can substitute cetyl alcohol, with aloe vera gel?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
No-they have absolutely nothing in common. Different solubilities, consistencies, usage rates, states-everything. Out of curiosity, what made you think of aloe vera as an alternative?
@koizellars1082
@koizellars1082 6 жыл бұрын
to be honest, I really don't know lol. i think because i thought it could "gel up" like cetyl alcohol. I guess. If that makes sense.

one more question.... when i made the oil... right now i just do the mica and oil, i am thinking about buying the ingredients mentioned in the video so try it out, but does it like "stain" your hands? bc when i do the oil and mica, it "stains" my hands and after i make it i have to wipe my hands off. btw i am a new subscriber and i have to say i am in LOVE with your videos/channel.

Marie!!!! I can't keep up! With every recipe you bring out, I have to add to my pantry! Stop! Two questions: Can I use Silica Micro Powder (is it the same stuff as I can't seem to find Microspheres here in the UK and I can't find the INCI fo what I've got). Assume it's okay to swap out the apricot kernel oil for something like Argan? What about Meadowfoam seed oil? So I'll need to find a UK supplier of Olvem 300!
