Thank you! My mother, a baby boomer, has always liked DP. One time when she was in her early twenties (in the early 70s) she drank several bottles over a short period of time and she had to make several trips to the bathroom. The ingredients have definitely changed over the years.

I believe the inclusion of amaretto or almond essence would be a key step. This is the flavour that I mainly taste when having it.

I found this recipe on the internet, and i am trying to use some of your ingredients as well and see where that goes. Old Fashioned Dr Pepper Makes 7 fl oz (210 mL) of soda NOTE: 1 minim = approx. 1/480 oz[2] 7 fl oz (210 mL) cold carbonated water 0.1 fl oz (3.0 mL) raspberry vinegar 1 minim (0.06 mL) vanilla extract 1-1/2 grains (65 mg) citric acid, food grade 1/2 minim (0.03 mL) almond extract 3/8 grain (24.375 mg) phosphoric acid, food grade 10 minims (650 mg) burnt or caramelized sugar 1 fl oz (30 mL) simple syrup

TINY HANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for being so real. When I tried to quit soda a few years ago, I tried to make root beer (my favorite soda) at home. It was a disaster. I forage sassafras root, which I later found out is cancerous, and boiled it for half a day. Worst beverage ever. I'm glad your attempt was so successful!

Do Ecto Cooler. Ingredients: Water, scoop sugar 4 times with a 1/3 cup, Lemon-Lime Drink Mix, Orange Drink Mix and 8 drops of green food coloring.

Ok clearly I have missed the moment that explains the tiny hands. Dr Pepper is like the one thing that I always remember trying the first time I went to the states and sadly... had it on the first plane ride within the US. I will have to give this a try on a rainy day !

I love my Soda Stream, you might want to try using extracts of as many of those ingredients as you can. You can also get pure cane sugar syrup, I use it as a replacement to high fructose corn syrup in BBQ sauce recipes.

+Tom's Test Kitchen I usually just put some lemon or lime in mine and keep it simple. Extracts is a good idea, too!

+Colin Starfish I'm glad you enjoyed it! The unfortunate part is that a whole bag of frozen cherries later, I had about 1 bottle of soda's worth. You'd need to make a bigger batch to last for a week or so, or be comfortable with watering it down a little more and stretching the syrup for longer.

I have terrible digestion, and Dr Pepper really helps to settle my stomach. But, there's way too much sugar in it. But, I'm wondering if it's the carbonation in it that helps, or is it the ginger. I've tried carbonated water, but it doesn't work the same. Great video, by the way. :)

it was invented in 1855 (before coke cola was, which was invented in 1886). apparently the information you read is a newer version. back in the day 60's and 70's there wasn't no such thing as 23 favors at all, just pure cane sugar and a few other things, BUT not 23 things. original Dr pepper was still being made in Dublin, Tx. a big court battle broke out and they quit making Dublin Dr pepper with real sugar in Dublin

Too many prunes and too much mint. You need to get the pH down by adding some type of acid... citric and/or phosphoric. That will help the flavor a lot.
