I'm going back to basics on this Sylvie build and breaking down the steps I'm taking to pattern, build and finish off her breastplate over the next two weeks! I've been showing you a lot of 3D printing lately and while I love tinkering with my printers, some times I just need to get my hands dirty with some EVA foam. Let me know what you're working on this week down below!

I'm finishing a crossbones cosplay, and then I'm going to start printing an iron man suit, and while that prints I'm going to make a polka dot man costume from the new suicide squid movie lol

@@fakermakerprops3948 That's awesome!!! I love having tons of projects to work on at the same time ... excited for your Iron Man suit, that's no joke!

I feel like there is a time and place for 3D printing versus foam work as well. Not everything needs to be 3D printed. I am testing this out a bit myself. Currently working on a few different projects. Still working slowly on my Wonder Woman armour, doing some upgrades to hubby's Spiderman and finishing a few other 3D prints, one being Padme's blaster and Star Lord's Power Orb. So that's a lot so really not just this week 🤣

I don't do cosplay but i am getting into sewing. This was really helpful! You're funny too. "If you're anything like me, first of all, I'm sorry" made me lol

thank you :) i've def used the duct tape method to make my own patterns for sewing!
@AstrocyteCosplay3 жыл бұрын
Your duct tape pattern is much cleaner than mine. Still trying to perfect doing this on myself. Great informative video. Thankyou!

I did some touch-up work on it off camera (or I should say, I filmed it but evidently it wasn't pointing where I wanted it to) :D thanks for watching!

Thank you for this, I'm making a William Shakespeare from Fate/Apocrypha cosplay and have tried explaining this process to my family for their help but this visual explanation should help them more than my words did.

I'm dressing as my own Loki Variant, Allandra (Ally), who is practically Sylvie but was pruned right away and had to deal with the whole kid Loki vs President Loki. She grew up to 16 and then Sylvie and 2012 Loki come, set Alioth free from Kang, letting her escape into our universe. Ally, much like Kid Loki has a Loki Variant sidekick/pet. Jazz, Jazz is a black furred female dog with the regular Loki horns strapped to her head. She was born female much like Ally, and Jazz was turned into a dog by Frigga after almost killing Thor. Which diverged from her path, and got pruned. Ally was pruned just a bit after Sylvie was caught, meaning Mobuis never met her. As I said, from the Multiverse, she came into the real world. That's where I come in! I dress up myself in my own version of Sylvie's outfit, and my dog, Jasmine, with horns! Does that sound cool? (P.S. unlike Sylvie, Ally has both horns on her helmet.)

that sounds awesome!!! I love the idea of having a little sidekick too

Great video! I wonder if I could use this idea to make a pattern for boot gators for my Mando build?
@vaultfox3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I used this same method to pattern out the boot covers and other bits for my Commander Shepard ... if you need to bulk out the pattern to lay a certain way you could even pad some balled up tinfoil or saran wrap under
@fakermakerprops39483 жыл бұрын
Awesome! I needed to make a tactical vest from foam for a crossbones, and I took probably 50 shirts and put them on a hanger until I had a makeshift dumny

Weird question, but what if parts are pointed or tiered? Like it’s not just a solid piece laying against your body. How do you pattern that?

If you’re patterning out for sewing (this is my first duct tape build) how much do you generally add on to account for seams? I know that a normal seam is 5/8s but do you add a bit more than that to be safe??
@vaultfox Жыл бұрын
To be completely transparent, I don’t really leave a specific measurement for seam allowance when making my duct tape patterns. When I trace them onto pattern paper to get that allowance I’d guess it’s about a 1/4inch to 3/4 inch but I also tailor things to my own body as I go so I like to leave more room for error

How does one make a pattern for an elbow pad (for example) that doesn't go directly on the arm, but on top of the armour?
@vaultfox2 жыл бұрын
the way I'd do it is pattern out and complete the bits of armor the elbow pad needs to go on first, then cover those pieces in saran wrap where you need the pad to go and pattern that way. or if you dont want to make the armor first, you can always add some bulk to your arm with layers of saran wrap/tinfoil to simulate the thickness of that armor

Would love to see a Scorpion cosplay build (specifically from mortal kombat X) using these techniques. I'm in desperate need of a diy tutorial for it but there's nothing out there that's any good. All the mortal kombat ninja tutorials are silly in my opinion. Anyhoo, thanks for the video.

I got a black hoodie with the sleeves cut off as layer #1 duct tape as layer #2 & crushed soda cans as layer for my upper chest and abs #3 and THEN upholstery snakeskin leather fabric by the yard as layer #5 so last I have the #RedBurlap to finish #GOODLUCK #JohnOfLocksley
