Eggshell calcium is a money-saving way to get extra calcium in your diet.
* Please consult a doctor before taking supplements such as powdered eggshells.
RECIPE:
Eggshell Calcium
Makes about 1/2 cup
Ingredients:
12 eggshells
Equipment:
Medium saucepan
Baking sheet
Coffee or spice grinder, or a Vitamix blender
Instructions
Place the eggshells in a medium saucepan. Cover them with water. Bring to a boil, skimming off any foam that appears. Cook for 15 minutes to sterilize the eggshells.
Preheat the oven to 225 degrees F. On a baking sheet, spread the shells in an even layer. Bake them for 20 minutes. This helps to dry them out.
Remove the eggshells from the oven and let them cool completely, Transfer the eggshells to a coffee grinder, spice grinder or Vitamix blender. Grind the shells into a fine powder. Transfer the eggshell powder to a glass jar and cover tightly with a lid. Store in a cool, dry place for up to one month. You can date the jar to keep track of when it expires.
NOTE: I don’t go through eggs too quickly, so I rinse them and store in a container in my freezer until I have a dozen or so. If you use eggs more quickly you can store the fresh eggshells in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

wash a dozen eggshells, peel out the membrane on the inside and then bake at 200 degrees for 20 or so minutes minutes and from there blend or just crack them into fine peices and mix the dozen eggshells with 4 to 8 ounces of vinegar and let it sit for at least 24 hours so the eggshells dissolve and you can dilute the mixture and water plants with it or add a teaspoon to a glass of water to drink it

Ty. I also take Natto it’s extremely high in Vitamin K. it’s very hard to get sufficient vitamin K in our diet vitamin K is very necessary for her to use calcium. We need to be getting calcium vitamin D, and vitamin K calcium absorption. I ordered my NATO from a company called Rhapsody had a Vermont they shipped by the case and it can be frozen or you can make your own using it as a starter. My kids eat it with rice with scallions, but I can’t take the texture, so I just take spoonful and swallow it like supplements I usually eat a fourth of a container a day also full of soy so flavins for estrogen because it’s fermented, it’s an extremely safe form of soy.

Do you mean once it’s already made or preserving the eggshells before preparing them into the powder? If you mean the prepared eggshell calcium powder, I like to store it in a glass jar with a tight fitting lid. Sometimes I save one of those little packets from vitamin bottles to put inside to keep it fresher even longer. I then store it in a cool dark place like a kitchen cabinet out of the sunlight. If you’re referring to the eggshells I store those in the freezer until I have enough of them to make the powder.

@ChristinesNaturalKitchen

Yes in that case you could probably skip boiling them, but could still bake them to dry them out and make it easier to grind them up. The baking removes the moisture so the ground powder can be stored at room temperature for a bit.

I'm curious regarding the purpose of boiling the eggshells for 12 minutes. Cleaning the eggshells makes sense, but it seems to me that setting the oven to 225 will both dry them out and sterilize them in the same step.

The boiling will help to release any impurities into the water rather than baking them onto the shells.

Check Your Math...Each gram of eggshells provides between 380-400mg of calcium. A teaspoon hold @ 5 grams. 5 grams = 5000 mg The Maximum amount of calcium needed by adults is 2000 mg and too much calcium can be bad for your health. The average amount needed by adults is @ 1000 grams per day. About 1/4 tsp per day would be about right by my math.

@@annetnawoova9226 You're welcome and here is a little more. Do Not peel out or rinse out the membrane after removing the egg from the shell as posted by others. The membrane is full of Collagen and other Proteins plus more beneficial Nutrients. Simply clean the egg shells with vinegar / water or other cleaning methods, then use the eggs and freeze the shells. After a couple of days in the freezer, I crush the shells, keep them in a large Glad bag back in the freezer. I use most of them in my homemade broth and grind some into a very fine powder in my Blendtec, ( super fine and no tamping needed ) to be added to drinks or recipes.

What's the point of boiling to sterilise it, the oven won't sterilise it? It's literally a higher temperature. Also in other video it has been mentioned that eggshells are very abrasive and when used in plastic blenders, some microplastic particle can be produced which is obviously unhealthy. Also that thin skin layer on the inside of the eggshell apparently also has some good stuff in it, and so washing egg before cracking to get rid of the bacteria, and after cracking no washing else it will be removed.
@ChristinesNaturalKitchen
@ChristinesNaturalKitchen 10 ай бұрын
Thank you for all of these insightful points you make. Regarding boiling to sterilize it the idea is that impurities will be washed away into the water, which is slightly different than when just baking them. I agree with you about plastic blenders so ideally a glass blender would be used.

Why do you wash the egg shells - and why do you promote the wasting of so much water by showing that you wash each half separately? Here in South Africa eggs are NEVER washed before we buy them and I personally make a hole in each end, suck the raw egg out and swallow it when in a hurry.

@@4opstick I live in South Africa, which has descended to the state of a third world country ever since 1994. Our "'infrastructure" is so poorly managed and maintained that we often go without electricity and water for DAYS on end, so we cannot afford to waste a single drop. Of course YOU don't give a continental hoot about OTHER people, so you waste as much as you want.
