Hi, I began the process with a different brand of flour and it started to bubble after the second feeding. by Day 2 in the afternoon it was beautiful, but then on day 3 after feeding it deflated and became creamy with almost no bubbles... I kept up discarding/feeding it for 13 days, but nothing else happened, it remained creamy. :(
@TheDuvallHomestead6 ай бұрын
@@JoseViana-sw2li that means it’s just hungry! Keep it in the fridge if you’re not using it. It will eat faster in the warm weather too. Does it inflate before it deflates?

@@TheDuvallHomestead it inflates on day 2 and less on day 3 when it deflates then it won't rise again. I have used almost all the 5lb-flour with two different methods. Starts awesome and then, plop.

@@JoseViana-sw2li it sounds like its sitting too long without food. If you’re seeing it double in size, you should use it in a recipe and then put the rest in the fridge. Only take it out at room temp and feed it before you plan on using it.
@JoseViana-sw2li6 ай бұрын
@@TheDuvallHomestead Thank you! I fed it every 12 hrs and I thought the starter should "mature" for a few days before using it. I guess then it is a super grain that gets ready fast. I'll let you know the progress with a new starter. Thank you!

Total flour used ?
@nicoledeibert115010 ай бұрын
I just started today, the 2:1 flour to water ratio seemed really dry to me. I’m using a locally (to me) grown einkorn flour. I’m assuming that if my mix is too dry (not moving at all) then it’s okay to add enough water to make it at least move a bit as you’ve shown in the video?
@TheDuvallHomestead10 ай бұрын
Yes that would make sense to me too. Chunky is good, you just don’t want runny.

Why are you discarding? The waste of all these starter tutorials is staggering. Our ancestors that created this method didn’t “waste anything”. Look up no waste starter videos and choose a one that doesn’t throw away perfectly good baking materials which cost money. If anything you can use this same method but cut the measurements to tablespoons instead of cups of materials and just add to it each day without discarding. If you use organic einkorn flour the results will be amazing and only take about 4-5 days.
@TheDuvallHomesteadАй бұрын
@@problemswehate.1310 when I say “discard”, it doesn’t mean “throw out”. I have many discard recipes on my blog theduvallhomestead.com. Save the discard and use it for pancakes, pizza crust, pies, etc!
