Thanks, Brian. Great job. Perfect curls are for hair stylists. All about thinnest. Can crinkle by hand. Thanks for rapidly scrubbing the middle of the rod without disturbing the tender pile. That's the real way to do it. People can save the tip for lighting easy stuff. You nailed it.

Thanks! This shows me much feathering is enough for fire starting purposes, and that it will take a spark directly from a ferro rod...very useful and answers the two questions I'd had about feather sticks

Maybe you are not an expert, but you did it perfectly. The proof is you made a fire. Someone will no doubt say "perfect would be flame after one strike from the fero rod", but I disagree. The goal is fire and you did just that, and fairly quickly as well. I actually make feathersticks just like you do, splitting wood for a sharp edge, etc. Very well explained Brian.

It`s interesting how everyone got slight differences in his technique. I prefer to use the edge as close as possible to the handle and not move the knife at all. Then I`ve seen guys starting at the handle and basically cutting towards the tip, and guys like you who start at the tip and get close to the handle. All three methods seem to work so I guess it`s just a "feel" kinda thing. What is your favorite wood for feathersticks. I only got Maple, Beech, Oak and Birch at hand so I kinda have to deal with those.

Say Heah Brian, Yeah the wood is very important to make feathers and a sharp knife is important too, But I just found out today that you can make feathersticks with a serrated blade. The funny thing by a mistake of not paying attention I bought a serrated Benchmade 156 CFK in D2 That just collected dust and it's still Virgin, We'll today I found out you can make feathersticks with a serrated blade, I mean I almost swallowed my cigar watching Blue Mountain start a fire in a snow storm using his serrated Prodigy her I have a virgin 156 because I thought Serrations were used more to cut rope and those sort of things, But boy am I every happy my Benchmade 156 CFK D2 won't be Virgin for long, It's really a very nice knife, But I never used it because it was serrated, WoW, can you believe that.
