first way with opacity is the worst way to do shadows, if you was casting a a shadow across a zebra crossing it would darked the white stripes BUT lighten the black stripes, shadows don't work like that, always use a transparency instead and always use black, shadows are never coloured and black with reflect the different colours undeath for you. Ofcourse thats just shadows, lighting is completely different method.

Opacity is transparency. It’s additive, the black would still look black. Also, many times shadows look better with some color in design

@@pixelandbracket wrong, the transparency panel is nothing to do with the opacity slider, using opacity is milky not clear, the black will lighten, use the transparency tool thats what its there for
