Organic liquid fertilizer, derived from kitchen waste, is a nutrient-rich solution that provides exceptional benefits for home plants. By harnessing the power of natural decomposition, it transforms food scraps into a potent fertilizer, enhancing soil fertility and promoting robust plant growth.
Follow these DIY steps to make your liquid organic fertilizer:
1. Collect and sort vegetable waste: Gather kitchen scraps such as fruit and vegetable peels, leftover produce, and non-greasy food scraps. Avoid using meat, dairy, and oily items.
2. Chop or blend the waste: Cut the vegetable waste into smaller pieces or use a blender to create a coarse mixture. This helps speed up the decomposition process.
3. Transfer the waste to a container: Place the chopped or blended waste into a large container, such as a bucket or a compost bin. Make sure the container has a lid to keep pests away.
4. Add water: Pour enough water into the container to submerge the vegetable waste completely. The ratio should be approximately 3 parts water to 1 part waste.
5. Stir and cover: Mix the contents well using a stick or a large spoon. Ensure the waste is thoroughly soaked in water. Cover the container with the lid to prevent any odor or insects.
6. Let it ferment: Allow the mixture to ferment for about 4 - 7 days. Place the container in a cool and shady area, and stir the mixture once every few days to facilitate decomposition.
7. Strain the liquid: After the fermentation period, strain the mixture using a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to separate the liquid fertilizer from the solid waste. Discard the solids or add them to your compost pile.
8. Dilute and use: The obtained liquid fertilizer will be concentrated, so dilute it before use. Mix one part fertilizer with 1-5 parts water, and stir well. Use this diluted solution to water your plants every 1-2 weeks for optimal growth.
Remember, organic liquid fertilizer made from kitchen waste is a natural and sustainable option, providing your plants with essential nutrients while reducing food waste in an Eco-friendly manner.
