@RosemaryDanielis Жыл бұрын
So true! I remember how much my kids LOVED blowing bubbles when they were young 😄 You can try using regular granulated sugar (a tablespoon or two depending on how much liquid you're using) and dissolving it in the water before you add the liquid soap. Hope it works for you!
@andreabalzarini6615 Жыл бұрын
Why do you use corn syrup? It isn’t enough to mix soap and water?
@RosemaryDanielis Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question 😊 The corn syrup acts to make the fragile bubble a bit stronger and more resistant to outside air movement. In my experiments it also creates the feather-like shape of the ice crystals that form on the bubble (like the ones you'll find in my photos and videos.)

What a fantastic idea. Thank you!!! Does it work with normal bubble mixture and does the home made mixture work as a normal bubble blowing solution?
@RosemaryDanielis3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I'm so happy you enjoyed the video. Normal (store bought) bubble mixture will work in winter's cold temperatures but the bubbles will be more fragile than the ones I make with my recipe. The added corn syrup in my recipe creates a stronger bubble as well as the feather-like ice crystals you see in my videos. I haven't tried my homemade mixture as a normal bubble blowing solution in warmer temperatures. If you try it this summer let me know!

Hi we don’t get much snow. Is it possible to get ice out of freezer and blow bubbles on that 🤔Paul
@RosemaryDanielis11 ай бұрын
Oh, I really wish that would work... Unfortunately, the air surrounding the bubble has to be freezing for the ice crystals to form. As soon as the bubble comes into contact with warm air the ice crystals disappear! You could maybe blow the bubble and place it in the freezer and peek inside after a while to see if it freezes? But as soon as you remove it from the freezer it will unfreeze instantly.

@RosemaryDanielis Жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for your question! The corn syrup helps make the bubble a little stronger as well as creates the beautiful feathery ice crystals that form. I believe you can substitute the corn syrup with any other pure sugar. If you use granulated sugar, just make sure to stir it in the water until it's dissolved before adding the liquid soap. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

What are your camera settings?
@RosemaryDanielis Жыл бұрын
Hello Elisabeth 😊 The camera settings vary according to the light levels outside and the angle you position the camera. My frozen bubble photographs/videos are taken on bright sunny days. To capture the ice crystals the way I do, place the camera slightly lower than the bubble, tilt toward the bubble and upward toward the sun. Focus is set to manual ISO is at 100 If there is little wind you can go with 1/125 shutter speed. Then adjust the aperture until you get the contrast you like. Some examples: if it's not windy and you're at 1/125 then you might need f/25. Or, if it's windy and you're at 1/250 then your aperture could be at f/18. I usually have to try a few shots to get my angle, then I adjust my settings to get the best contrast. I hope that helps 😊 I'm hoping to do a video with more details specifically about the photography side of frozen bubbles if the weather allows me to! Be on the lookout for one this February and good luck with your frozen bubbles.

@dipus4 жыл бұрын
Well explained, thank you! Does the corn syrup have sugar added? The one I got has 36% sugar and the bubbles are not freezing even at 28 degrees.
@RosemaryDanielis4 жыл бұрын
Hello! The corn syrup is added to create the ice crystal shapes that you see in my video and to make the bubbles slightly less fragile. It shouldn't affect the freezing. I think the problems you're having might be temperature related. It's best to wait for really cold temperatures, 14°F/-10°C (even lower is better.) Other factors like sunshine, blowing the bubble on a dark-coloured surface or being completely protected from the wind all serve to make the surrounding area warmer than the thermometer indicates. Humidity in the air can play a role as well. Although in the video I was able to make the bubbles at 32°F/0°C it sometimes requires much colder temperatures to achieve the same result - even for me! I hope weather conditions change soon to allow you to create your Frozen Bubbles :) Good luck!

@RosemaryDanielis3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment :) I hope you get a chance to make some frozen bubbles. Watching them form is incredible! I use a Canon 6D with a 100mm 1:2 macro lens. I don't think a macro lens is a must (I just like to really get close to see the details.) The trick with any lens you use is to be able to see the bubble as closely as you can. They look large in my video but in reality they aren't more than 1-2 inches in diameter. Whichever lens you use, you have to angle the lens toward the light to capture the crystals forming on the bubble. It takes a little experimenting to get the hang of it but it's sure worth it!

i don’t have corn syrup. can i use something in place of that?
@RosemaryDanielis3 жыл бұрын
Hello :) I've only used corn syrup so far, so can't be sure what the exact results will be if you use something else in its place. I've tried it with just soap and water and the bubbles are very fragile. Plus the feather-shaped ice crystals did not form at all without the corn syrup. If you want to experiment you might try adding granulated sugar (2-3 tablespoons) to the water and stirring until dissolved before adding the soap as I did in the video. One viewer used maple syrup in place of the corn syrup and said it worked well. If you do try using sugar I'd love it if you let me know how it went :) Good luck!
