I have used the steel capsule hundreds of times and I have never seen any damage to the nespresso machine.

Pure water. And why the hell you used a dirty cup?
@mattvanderhoek55165 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by pure water. Cup was not dirty, it just had coffee residue from the coffee shot that I made just before filming the video.

Hi sir, thanks for the reply. i just had to push the capsule with more force, at first i thought i destroyed my machine, but its all ok. could i ask for some advice? was planning to buy some beans from starbucks, what should i say to the barista as to the level of grind from the beans? will they know at all? thanks again and more power.

Glad to hear the capsule fits. Grinding is a big issue with the capsule. You may need to experiment a bit with which grind setting works best. You could have Starbucks grind some coffee at different grind settings and see which one work best with the capsule. Keep in mind that even grinders of the same make/model will grind differently depending on their age, use, and setting. Humidity also has an effect. In short, it is quite tricky. After a while, I ended up purchasing my own grinder so that I have total control. Good luck.

Hi Matt. Thanks for your review. I just bought my Nespresso machine and I'm considering buying a stainless steel reusable capsule for three reasons: 1. environmental concerns; 2. save money; 3. quality (I'm the "100% arabica purist" kind of guy, and all Nespresso grand crus seem to have robusta in the mix; also, I have an electric grinder to always have fresh grinds in my moka). My biggest concern is that all reusable steel capsules are pricy, so I'm not buying unless I'm sure they can make a decent coffee in a Nespresso machine. Problem is that most reviews I've seen are negative, but people don't talk about the grinding of the coffee, so I'm hoping that people giving thumbs down to steel capsules are using the wrong grinding. Since you seem to aprove the system, let me ask you: are you using coarse, medium or fine coarse? Thank you very much.

Hi Marco, I purchased the steel capsule for $45, which is not that expensive in the long run. The steel capsule is pretty sensitive to the grind. I have my own burr grinder which has around 30 different grind settings (32 = very coarse, 2 = very fine). I use setting number 17 for the steel capsule. So I would say the the grind is medium or medium-coarse. But again, the capsule is pretty sensitive to the grind. Sometimes if I go down to setting 15, then the capsule will not work because the grind is too fine. And if I go up to setting 20, the capsule will work but the quality of the espresso suffers since the grind is too coarse. Hope that helps. Matt

Matt Vanderhoek Thanks for the feedback! The capsule works, but how fine? How do you compare taste, body and crema to an official Nespresso capsule?
@mattvanderhoek55168 жыл бұрын
Hi Marco, I use freshly roasted (less than 3 weeks old) and freshly ground coffee in my stainless steel capsule. The taste and body of espresso made with this coffee are about 10 times better than the coffee in an official Nespresso capsule. The crema is decent but not as good as an official Nespresso capsule. Hope that helps.

Maybe Nestlé add some emulsifier to their coffee capsules...
