I’ve been “teaching myself” watercolor for the last handful of years. I’ve never, ever been drawn to abstract work, but after watching this video I felt absolutely driven to do it. Now I’m six little paintings richer! Well done! Thank you for the inspiration and instruction. :)

I know what you mean. Me too. I had to put my art work away as I didn't get any support from parents. In the end I actually married an artist and he has been so supportive. But abstracts always seemed like a cop out. Except that they are not. I've sent off for some card stock, and I am going to make some of these and sell them on the internet. So happy.

What a wonderful process for watercolors, especially for people like myself who are petrified to pick up a paint brush. I created two sets of abstracts yesterday, and today my friend, who is a true artist, came to my home and we each painted another set. So fun to work alongside someone else who has different sensibilities around creating art with paint. My friend embellished with Tombow brush pens. We also used a toothbrush for splattering. For some panels that had dead spaces, I went in with a watercolor pencil and brushed in little starbursts of color to create a more complete look. This process is addictive and I plan to make one more set tomorrow while all my art toys are still spread out over the dining table. Thank you Karen for the inspiration🙏🏼
@carolyng.6405 Жыл бұрын
I made 3 sets of these cards. I wasn’t thrilled with most of the panels on the third set and found a great way repurpose them. Using a die cut machine with standalone flower-shaped dies, I used the painted panels as the cutting material. The die-cut flowers are gorgeous! I’m planning another set of abstract panels in shades of green for die-cutting leaf and sprig shapes and will then assemble various pieces to create greeting cards. So fun!

I played around with Derwent inktense pencils and a water pen and finally bought the blocks. The permanence and deep colors opened up some new fun because you can then use other media and generally, it won't run or mix. Let them dry well. Isn't this great fun?

I was very inspired by this. Thank you. I just recently bought some watercolor crayons because I just never felt comfortable with my watercolor pencils nor my tin of hard little square watercolors. I will be trying out all of these techniques and maybe even thinking up a few of my own. My grown daughter has been artistically talented since a very young age and in middle school her art teacher invited me to her home and gave me one intensive art lesson so that I "would fully appreciate my daughter's world and talent". She thought it would help me understand the way my daughter looked at the world. And it did! I am forever thankful to her for her kindness. There was no internet back then! How lucky we are now.

Karen, I don't paint in the abstract form often, but after seeing this tutorial, I'm going to make an exception. It was fun seeing these paintings come to life and seeing how some shapes (which in the beginning looked like fish in the sea) changed into something different. The entire process was entertaining and informative. I love how you introduced the salt, cling wrap, and brusho into your creation. They do make quite lovely cards. Thank you for sharing your talent.
