How big was your biggest gar? I’ve seen a picture of one taken in the 40s down in Arkansas that must have been 7 foot long. I have a 13ft salmon fly rod that I would love to take out after big gar once I move back to St. Louis later this year.

30" longnose gar is my largest. Gator gar can get huge down south. See a lot of guys catching monster 7-8 footers in Texas. I've seen monster longnose in the Meramec. Billy and I have theorized a state record longnose could come out of that river. Your salmon rod will do great. I have a 9ft 7wt TFO that's a lot of fun.
