In this video, I show the 1st method from producing hydrochloric acid (HCl) at home, by reacting sulfuric acid (H2SO4) with sea salt (NaCl).
I will publish soon a second method that doesn't require the use of sulfuric acid.

A warning about suckback would be advised. What is suckback? There comes a point when a vacuum is created in the generator and sucks the water back into the generator, which creates an even greater pull, sucking all the water through the hose. Ironically, this is the same way to quench the acid generator: putting the hose in fresh water and dropping [dripping] a lot of water onto the salt, which in turn sucks all the water through the hose to end the reaction. I wonder what everybody has been doing to end the reaction of HCl otherwise.

by adding ice in the water, we greatly raise the HCL's solubility.

Great video and i have a question. I ve been buying and diluting hcl for medical reasons for many years now. I drink a 3% solution several drops because i have atrophic gastritis. Without it my digestion shuts down completely. Lately, my weak solutions seem to expire a lot faster for some reason and the price of the saturated solution has gone up. Im considering the option of producing small amounts. What is the best method for this, in your opinion? It seems to me h2so4 will be harder to obtain than the hcl.

What I've been doing lately is just buy HCl at Lowes or at The Home Depot. They sell it for about $15 a gallon, and it has a concentration of 30%. I purify it with this simple method (kzbin.info/www/bejne/apOQqWChga-cbac) and I end up with pure HCl with a concentration of about 20%.

you are great what is the amount of water and salt should I use thank you very much again
@BlueMoonshine
@BlueMoonshine 3 ай бұрын
The amount of water you should use is the amount of liquid HCl you want to end up with. The amount of salt depends on the concentration you want to achieve. It is hard to predict because a lot of the HCl gas produced will escape, unless you make a design in which you can recirculate the gas several times into the water for it to absorbs the maximum. So I would say add salt and sulfuric acid until you get the concentration that you want.

@@MOHAMMED-z3h8h That is different from what I do. As you can see in the video, I pour the sulfuric acid on the solid salt, collect the HCl gas that is produced and make it bubble into water.

Thanks! Another way is to do it in a similar way to what you did in your video with electrolyzing salt, but using a split cell. This way you get chlorine gas at the anode and hydrogen gas at the cathode. Then you combine them together in sun light or under a UV lamp so that they react to give HCl gas. Then the gas will be readily absorbed by water to give hydrochloric acid.

Your awesome! Question can regular pink salt Himalayan be used as well for substituting regular salt?
@BlueMoonshine
@BlueMoonshine 8 ай бұрын
Yes. Salt, as opposed to popular beliefs, is not 100% sodium chloride, but it doesn't matter as only the sodium chloride part will react and produce the HCl gas (maybe other gases too, but it is the HCl that the water is avid).

regardless of any artificial "coating" the foil may have, Aluminium has a natural oxide coating that forms extremely fast on new surfaces, and is very resistant to corrosion - the delay in the reaction is due to the acid first needing to get through the oxide layer.@@thekidyoutubers6349

@@BlueMoonshine please sir how much sulphuric acid and how much sodium chloride will I need to achieve a 37% concentrated hcl in a 40L water in 6hours how do I do that maths
@BlueMoonshine
@BlueMoonshine Жыл бұрын
@@nurudeenmusah8734 H2SO4 + NaCl ---> HCl + NaHSO4 H2SO4 is 98 g/mol NaCL is 58 g/mol HCl is 36 g/mol H2O is 18 g/mol So, for every 98 g of sulfuric acid, use 58 g of pure sodium chloride, and this generates 36 g of hydrochloric gas. For having a concentration of 37%, you need to dissolve it in 61 g of water. However, only a fraction of the gas will dissolve in the water when you will bubble it into it, so you need to find a way to recirculate the undissolved gas and bubble it again until completely dissolved. Finally scale everything to get your 40L of liquid HCl. I don't know how long that would take.

How many gram that salt?
@BlueMoonshine
@BlueMoonshine Жыл бұрын
The question is meaningless. What matters is the to have the reactants in stochiometric proportions. The reaction is H2SO4+2NaCl=2HCl+Na2SO4, so you need to salt molecules for each acid molecule. Since the molar mass of H2SO4 is 98.079 g/mol and that of NaCl is 58.44 g/mol, you would need 116.88 g of salt for each 98.079 g of acid. That would be correct if the acid had a concentration of 100%. Mine has 98% concentration, we need to compensate by dividing the acid mass by 0.98%. This leads to 100.08 g of acid for 116.88 g of salt.
