When I had dreads my daughter put them in and I crocheted them weekly myself. You don’t have to pay for it. Mine were to my waist when I combed them out. They were 4 years old and they were beautiful. Yes they will comb out. Expect a huge pile of hair and that’s from natural shedding.

You're right, getting dreads & doing maintenance is super pricey, also where I live, it's super hard finding locticians. I initially got dreads in January 2021, had to drive out 2hrs & paid $450 to get it done, & it was just a person doing it from their house. Then I spent forever trying to find a place for maintenance, since I was trying to find something closer & wanted to find like an actual salon. I finally found a place about an hour away from me, so I've been getting maintenance like every other month paying $120 each time. The money adds up a lot & lots of traveling too. I've tried multiple times doing maintenance on myself, but I just can't get the locs in the back, & the ones that I can get, it never ends up looking as good as when my loctician does it. Loc journeys are tough. Will there ever come a time where you won't need maintenance anymore? Lol

If your having a problem retwisting with precision try this. I’ve been doing my brothers hair and mines for over 3 years. So basically you need a metal rat tooth comb, some type of gel or oil a spray bottle and lastly two mirrors. Set one of the mirrors up in front of the other with yourself right in the middle. It is important that your able to move the mirror in front of your face as you will have to adjust the angle throughout the process. Then all you gotta do from their is have a steady hand with the comb. Spray with oil and water and get to separating and retwisting I hope this helps🤙🏽

Also when using the crotchet hook idk how many times youve done and still cant do it right. You cant crotchet a strand of hair and expect it to lock up. Youre essentially grabbing hair and folding onto itself creating a "dreadlock" looking strand of hair. You have to crotchet hook knots that are in your hair to tighten them into a cylindrical "dreadlock". That is why ppl with straight hair back comb or twist and rip. Cause that process makes the hair clump up into knots that you can then tighten with a crotchet needle to make a pretty solid knotted strand of hair giving you a "dreadlock" appearance. I put quotations around "dreadlock" because my pov on dreads means that the hair has been locked for atleast a year in its knotted form. I would personally call year old knotted strands of hair dreadlocks. Thats why ppl say baby locks or starter locks because theyre not completely mature dreads. Mature isnt something you can achieve with a crotchet hook. Maturation comes from time. There is a difference in appearance between fresh crotchet hooked "dreads" to year old + dreads. Just my opinion rlly doesnt matter i still watch your videos and all cause i love looking at hair and different styles. Just thought id spread some knowledge i learned from doing my own dreads. (Dont have them anymore but ive had about 5 sets) you give out great info all the time just thought id put a note in for others that might get confused while watching like i have.
@ssf14702 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the concept of 'maturity ' is self explanatory. You can't get fully mature dreads in a day, cuz the new growth needs to adjust to them which takes time (unless your hair isn't curly cuz this wouldn't be possible with straight hair)
@labakrapscalio4512 жыл бұрын
Can't agree more. I've had dreads since 2011. Time and patience creates the most beautiful dreads. I personally think this rushed manufactured process looks terrible. Nature and time. You can't rush the process, people are just impatient
@ssf14702 жыл бұрын
@@labakrapscalio451 agreed. thats why i think gunthers current set of dreads looked better at the 6 month mark than now, cuz they actually looked natural and not rushed. now they just damaged

Yo bro, can you tell me if doing the instant locs method make it looks unnatural and stiffy forever? I really dont wanna let them loc naturally because it'll negatively impact in my self esteem and job hunting and all, can i do it instant method and get it to look more natural after idk 1 week or so?
@iclxtch42172 жыл бұрын
@@gabrielhenrique1651 no they don’t look stiff after a while, when you crochet them leave a inch from the root, and you can get them palm rolled into two strand if you want, and they’ll look natural in about a week or two when take the two strand out.

i'm so glad there wasn't a KZbin 30+ years ago when i started my dreadlock journey...There's so many folks making misinformed videos for the sake of likes, shares and subscriptions for money...Growing dreadlocks are not this complicated and anything worth having won't happen overnight. It's all about having patience and letting them form naturally in time. Water is your friend and drinking it along with eating a healthy diet and exercise helps and you don't have to buy "tools" or products that never allow them to lock on their own, since you're manipulating the root by pulling the new growth. folks in Jamaica don't do this nonsense, so why are folks doing it in the states?
