How to make homemade yogurt in an Instant Pot using the easy Cold Start method! We show you what ingredients we use, how to make yogurt, how to strain it and how to flavor and store it. Please Subscribe for more videos.
NOTE: We can NO LONGER find the Simply Jello Products, so we are currently using flavored drink mix packets from True Lime and True Lemon (I like the strawberry and black raspberry these days!)

@Renette Hicks - Hi Renette! Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment :) This video is older, and I can no longer find that particular kind of Simply Jello, but I have used other add-ins to flavor my Jello. I've tried good ole Nestle Quick (always in the pantry for chocolate milk) and it works :) I've also been using flavored packets of True Lime or True Lemon to flavor my yogurt. Still my favorite way is just simply with fruit and honey or honey and granola. I'm so glad it helped a little bit :) Have a truly blessed day, Stacy 😍💕

Stacy, I want to take a minute to thank you for this video. I don't do cold start, I go with the "boil" process, but your video is what gave me the push to get started. Homemade yogurt truly does make a huge difference! Lol, haven't gotten my son to try it yet, he just looked at me and said, "I'm nobody's guinea pig." His loss means more for me, so onward we go.

@Sue Sung - Hi Sue! Aww, I'm so glad to hear you are making yogurt now, that's awesome! The method totally doesn't matter, just the final result. I tried the boil method once, because I do like that you can use a much cheaper carton of milk, but I like the ease of the cold start. For me, I like knowing what is in my food and controlling additives and such. I'm with you, if your son doesn't like it, then that's just more for you to enjoy, LOL! @@LetsCookYall , lol, I just used Walmart milk to try things out with, but I'm going to hit a different source for my next batch. @@ellatoler4046 That works too! Most areas of the country have much cheaper prices for milk, but here, it's not a whole lot more for the Fairlife and it's SO much easier. I don't do it weekly, so it's not so bad on the budget. I leave some plain, but most of my little containers, I add stevia or some flavoring. And soon, I'll start back making small batches of refrigerator jam using my IP and will stir that into my plain yogurt. I also like it with honey and granola. Tim is not a yogurt fan at all, but he does eat the homemade some. He was also hesitant the first time, but said, this is good! LOL! I'm very lucky in that Tim has a much more adventurous palate than I do, so he's always willing to try something. Once. If he doesn't like it, then I won't make it again :) Enjoy the yogurt!!

@Linda071964 - Hi Linda! Thank you for stopping by our channel, and for taking the time to watch and comment :) We are so glad you are here! One of the main things I wanted to try in my Instant Pot was yogurt, so I made sure to get a model with the Yogurt button/function. The cold start method is just so easy! It costs more than the boil method, since you pay more for the Fairlife or other ultra-pastueurized milk, but it is just so easy. Since I filmed and shared this video, I can no longer find the "Simply Jello" products. These days, I am using products from True Lemon and True Lime, they are flavored drink mixes, like the small packets you add to your water bottle. I really like the raspberry (True Lemon) and the black cherry (True Lime) and use those often. I also keep several small containers plain, so I can add local honey, granola and fresh or frozen berries. I hope you get a chance to try making your own, and I would love to hear how it works for you! Hope the video helps, and I know you'll enjoy the process and the results! I was so glad I did some research before I decided which IP to get, I knew once I saw that some had a yogurt function that I wanted to go that route. I eat a lot of yogurt and really like making it myself. And yes, you can flavor it so many ways! I've seen people make lemon curd in their IP, and I have made several kinds of homemade jam lately and have enjoyed mixing that in. It's great with just vanilla mixed in, some honey or stevia and fresh fruit, I ate a lot of that all summer. Endless possibilities, really! I just feel better about eating this, although I still buy and eat "store-bought" yogurt :) Hope you are well! Have a wonderful and blessed day ----Stacy 😍❤

Mr. & Mrs. Lee - thank you for stopping by Hannah! It's a fun kitchen gadget and I'm still really enjoying experimenting and playing with it! If you want to order from Amazon, then definitely look on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, those days should have an IP on a deal of the day, and that will be the best price, by far. If you have a Kohl's nearby and shop there, you can earn Kohl's Cash and use that towards an IP, they carry them. Walmart and Target have them, but they often carry the Lux model, which does not have the Yogurt button. There's several models and not all of them do everything (yogurt being one of the main things). Hope you and Jason are doing well! Have a wonderful and blessed day ---Stacy 😍❤

Cool! I used to have a yogurt maker, but sadly it broke. Your cold start method looks even easier though because with my machine, you still had to pre-heat the milk to a very specific temperature. Great idea saving the extra yogurt for starters! I don’t eat much yogurt, but homemade is definitely better. Also, I liked controlling the amount of sugar since store bought usually has too much. Have a great weekend 😊

AKA Our Life - thank you for stopping by Abby! I have never had a yogurt maker, but know that they exist, and there are other ways to make it, but almost all of them require a specific method, as does the other way to make it in the Instant Pot (the boil method, you have to get it to a specific temperature, let it go a set time, etc; a lot more work!). But apparently with the new ultra-filtered, ultra-pasteurized milks on the market, like Fairlife, it alleviates so much of that. I'm still just really having a blast with my new toy, LOL! I've been making yogurt most of this year though, and enjoy it, I do try to eat a lot of yogurt :) Hope you guys have a fun weekend, and a truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍❤

My first batch of yogurt is in the pot! I started it at 6:15...because I was thinking it had to go for 12-18 hours. Oops! I had watched way too many instant pot yogurt videos before seeing yours and I got a little confused on the times. My Tim says, "you know you'll be getting up at 2:15 to put that in the fridge, right?" LOL Oh well, I've got my straining system set up and ready to go when the alarm goes off. I'm usually up at that time (and a few more) to use the bathroom during the night, so it's all good! Can't wait to see how it turns out. I'll let you know. Kim
@LetsCookYall
@LetsCookYall 6 жыл бұрын
tkwilson4585 - Wheeee! Kim, I'm so excited! Yes, I usually do 8 hours, I put mine on right at bedtime, and it's ok for a little bit afterwards, as long as it's in the pot and sealed up. I tried one batch at 9 hours and it was a little tart to me. But you might like it like that! So yes, when your alarm goes off after 8 hours, just take the pot out, cover it with saran wrap, stash in the fridge and go back to sleep. It will be fine whenever you get up, you can chill for at least four hours before you strain it. I never strain right away, I always chill first. That might work, but the method I showed in the video is what I always do and has always worked for me. And you may not even need to strain yours, it depends on how thick you want it, I just like mine thick, so I usually chill for about 4 hours, then strain for 3-4. After that, you can mix in whatever you want in the way of flavoring. I can't wait to hear, please let me know, I'll be on pins and needles, LOL! So excited! Have a great evening and I hope you go back to sleep and get a good night's sleep, it will be fine until you get up, just chilling in the fridge! Have a wonderful and blessed day ---Stacy 😍❤

Well...I chilled it for awhile, and then put it in a strainer with coffee filters. I got 2 cups of whey. However, I'm not crazy about the taste or texture. I sweetened it a little and added my fruit and granola like I always do in store bought yogurt. I know everyone has different likes/dislikes in yogurt and I like mine very thick and very tangy. This was thick enough for me, but very bland and kind of a pasty texture. I'm not sure I'll try it again because I have tried every kind of greek yogurt on the market and actually found that Aldi's blended greek ones I like the most. I hate to spend the money to keep trying to tweak the recipe with different times, etc. I'm glad I tried it, and I know that so many people like making their own, but on the positive side I made twice baked potatoes for dinner tonight and decided to sub in the yogurt instead of sour cream that my recipe calls for. It worked perfectly! Go figure. Thanks, Stacy for posting the video and for taking the time to check in on my attempt. I love my instant pot, for sure, so please keep posting IP videos. Kim

tkwilson4585 - thank you so much for swinging back by to let me know Kim! You got a lot of whey, I don't measure but I'm not sure I get 2 cups. I like to use the whey for smoothies (with the yogurt too), salad dressings, pancakes, etc. You can also freeze some of it :) I'm so sorry you weren't fond of the texture. I do like mine thick, and I chill for at least 4 hours and then strain for 3-4, and it's almost like a soft cream cheese, very thick. I do add a lot of stevia to mine, or else I do local honey with fresh fruit or granola. I have a voracious sweet tooth and I like mine sweet. As you said, everyone likes something different, and thankfully, I have gotten mine to be how I like it. Still, there are times I just buy the kind I like at the store too, I don't always make a batch in the IP. Great idea to use the yogurt for sour cream in the twice baked potatoes, yum! Making lemonade, LOL! I hope you and Tim have a great evening, thanks again for letting me know! Have a blessed day ---Stacy 😍❤

Let's Cook Ya'll - Is it possible to use Fairlife’s Chocolate milk?
@LetsCookYall

@@katygutierrez9492 - I have never tried it because from everything I've read, it doesn't work well. I think there's something about the enzymes and sugars that are in the chocolate milk, that keep it from setting up. Most everyone that I've seen online that have tried it, said it came out thin and never thickened, so I have never tried it (read: wasted the money on ingredients, LOL!). If I want chocolate yogurt, I just stir Nestle chocolate milk powder or Hershey's syrup into mine, LOL! I also like a sweet yogurt, so I stir in stevia packets in all of my yogurt when it comes out, along with other flavorings. I like to use honey and granola, fresh fruit, and last summer, I went through a phase of making a quick refrigerator homemade jam with fresh berries. If you are interested in that, I can find the video and link it :)

I really want to try this soon, SO glad for a video! I almost think I can do it now! Looks like I may have to buy more containers. Will it work if you put all of the yogurt in one container and scoop out of it like I do with the bought one or does it work better to be in individual containers?

Gail B - thanks for stopping by! Yes, it works just fine to put it in one big container, I did that for several batches before I made the jump and bought individual containers. If you want to flavor some, you can mix it up and store it in any size container you like, or keep it all plain and flavor/add to it as you eat it. Will work just fine in any containers, I just like my individual cups for portion control :) It took me a while to make the plunge and buy them though, I just used a larger Pyrex or Corningware for many months :) Hope that helps! Have a blessed day---Stacy 😍❤

@Tina's Journal of Journeys - Hi Tina! Thank you so much for stopping by our channel, and for taking the time to watch and comment. We are so glad you are here! To try to answer your question - I am, by no means, an expert on yogurt, but I have made it quite often. I learned from "Frieda" of "Freida Loves Bread" fame, and read her information and watched her video. She seems to know more of the science behind it. From what I've gathered and noticed on my own, is that the longer it incubates, the more tart it gets. I guess it has something to do with enzymes or whatever properties are in the yogurt and cultures, the longer you go, the stronger they get, I guess? I know that I have only ever tried an 8 hour time frame, and a 9 hour time frame, and even with the one hour difference, the batches I have done for 9 hours were more tart, and "stronger". Those batches require more sweetening to me, I use more stevia. I incubate 8 hours, take the IP inner pot out and cover with plastic wrap, don't stir or touch it in any way, and cover and put in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours to chill. Then I scoop mine out, gently, into a colander lined with coffee filters, over a big bowl, and let mine strain for another few hours. 3 hours seems to work best for the texture that I prefer. Only then do I take it out and "mess" with it. After incubation, chilling and straining, then I portion mine out into small containers, add stevia or sweetener, flavorings, etc. It's worked well for me the last couple of years. I hope that helps answer some of your question :) Have a wonderful and blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚
