Ty Thomas Boxing Training Many TV series have inflated ratings, mostly because they have many die hard fans. The worse seasons of some series still clock in at 7/10, with the 10/10 ratings galore keeping them afloat. The Marvel universe films for instance are not masterpieces by any means, the acting and direction is very mediocre, yet there are so many people enthusiastic about the series, and they have all the right to be, but the 8/10 ratings is no indication of great cinema there. Objectively, they are not that fantastic.
@sierrasouthwell92374 жыл бұрын
@@an8790 Marvel Movies are no Citizen Kane, but they're entertaining, funny, have fleshed-out characters, and minimal plot holes. Can you say the same for Transformers? or the latest Star Wars films (excluding Rogue One)? I mean, I wouldn't exactly nominate these movies for an Oscar, but they're still good, entertaining movies.
@an87904 жыл бұрын
Sierra Southwell I still think they are overhyped. I want to say that they are not within my taste, but then i remember that I liked the Dark Knight trillogy, and that I liked Watchmen, and Joker, good superhero/villain movies are not an impossibility. I don't think the MCU movies are bad, just kind of decent. A kind of 5/10 to 6/10 most of them. I think the limiting factor for me is the overall story, which should be central in a movie. Good CGI, absence of plot holes and decent acting isn't enough. They lack soul and any sort of sense that they were not just thought up by a sales focus group. The series was designed to reach the least common denominator with audiences, as proven how they added a scene in the last one to please the Chinese market, which is phony to say the least. The original trillogy in starwars also had decent acting, the visual effects are really aged, but the worldbuilding and the story and the music was fantastic, making the overall impression great, and making them worthy to go down in cinema history. The MCU movies are predictable and formuleic in story, the music is professional but forgettable, and how the characters and the world interacts feels bland. The only real 'wow' factor are the effects, which I don't count into being important making a good movie as there are 100 year old movies with effects that look terrible now that still shine with authenticity and creativity.
@sierrasouthwell92374 жыл бұрын
@@an8790 Again, I'm not claiming that these movies are masterpieces (and I was also comparing them to the newest Star Wars movies, not the originals), but they're fun to watch and worth seeing in the theaters, and really, isn't that what rotten tomatoes is supposed to tell you? I've seen the movies that Rotten Tomatoes rates as around 60%, and those are.... really not great (Transformers 2009 being one)
@an87904 жыл бұрын
Sierra Southwell I'd just put transformers lower ;) You do have a point, they are okay, and objectively they are a decent watch, especially if you're looking to watch something in the cinema with friends. Maybe it'd be clearer if we used different parameters to rank movies? Comedies that are hilarious always have a rating that's too low, that never made sense to me. Films made to make people laugh that succeed in that often have that 6.5 or 6, even if the viewer has a really good time (because the acting isn't so good, or whatever), which is the point of a film :)

@@Sk8boardpsych0 Sam ruined his own career by being an anti-Semitic, misogynistic racist on his show, and as a person. He then tried blaming Tim Heidecker, Brett Gelman, and anyone else besides himself when his show was cancelled for it's bigotry and the amount of complaints it received. Sam doesn't seem to understand freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences of his own actions. He fucked up his own career and now has to make his own way, with his website or whatever the hell he does. Meanwhile, Conner is friends with Heidecker and is working with him and his production company. Connor PLAYS a crazy right wing asshole sometimes, while Sam IS a crazy, right wing asshole who has burned most of his bridges. Oh well.

I hate when Joe Pera is put in a situation contrasting to him. He really shines when all the environment works with him, like when he talks you to sleep, or show you some of his footage, or visit some breakfast place to eat pancakes. When all the elements blend with his essence, you get a complete product, otherwise is like having some country singer in a rave, it disrupts the experience making it less enjoyable.
