The fact that many people still live this way in many parts of the world and our grandmothers lived that way even during the Great Depression in many areas of the US gives one an appreciation of modern convienences. Grandpa thought it was a waste of a good pig! Lol!

Joe being apologetic for going so slow, but man you are doing it RIGHT. The worst thing you can do with tools and other things that could injure you, burn yourself or your house down, or “waste” extra material is to go FAST, especially when you are not experienced. Patience is absolutely a virtue, and in the 18th century that’s how you lived, survived, and thrived. Back before antibiotics and modern sterilization techniques, rushing tasks and injuring yourself COULD mean losing a limb, losing valuable time to prepare for winter and to get your fields sowed and harvested in time, and even your death. Broken bones and torn ligaments would restrict your ability to do things that were necessary for sustaining yourself because they didn’t have the knowledge base to heal WELL, and good luck with compound fractures (or bones that stick out of the skin) Rushing meant ☠️. He has embodied the 18th century wonderfully just by being him.
