One can only watch so many "perfect suburban moms making jam" KZbin videos before throwing in the towel and giving up. The only response those videos generally create in me is one of feeling discouraged to try just about anything. It's like middle school angst all over again. Your jam making video achieved just the opposite of that! Your easy going and kind demeanor made me feel empowered and super inspired. Thank you for just being you!

I've been making jam for years, so understanding the science is important. Blackberries don't have enough pectin for a set. So I add apple or gooseberries. Perfect set. Xx

I made strawberry jam the ither day with monk fruit sweetener instead of sugar. It turned out GREAT

I like to learn from you I was in special ed class in Oregon and I'm now living in Central Missouri and mentally slow and I'm trying to learn how to cook you bread and everything so can you show me how to do that in my bread maker thank you❤❤❤❤❤

Also ...from experience...jam can splatter when the machine restarts...take a piece of wax paper and put it between the lid and the pan before starting cuz if it splatter on the lid...that's very hard to clean off.

Just got my first bread maker and love it! It's so easy it's stupid! Baked a white then a wheat loaf and they were so yummy! I wanted to say, 'good job girl" recording this! New subbie here too! I also want create YT vids but don't get around to it. I know I will love all your recipes and can't wait to make jam! Mahalo and Aloha from Maui!

Please read this, when doing cooking at home, that you, may share with friends and family. Pectin, a soluble fiber found in fruits, serves as a thickener in cooking and baking. While it has various uses, including lowering cholesterol, there isn’t substantial scientific evidence to support all claims. Here are the key points regarding pectin: Side Effects: When taken orally, pectin is generally safe when consumed in food amounts. It’s well-tolerated, but some individuals may experience mild side effects such as diarrhea, gas, and stomach cramps. People who are allergic to cashew should be cautious, as pectin might cause allergic reactions in this group. Pregnant and breastfeeding individuals can consume pectin in larger amounts without significant risk. Long-term use of pectin (up to one year) is considered safe. Interactions: Pectin can interact with certain medications: Tetracycline antibiotics: Pectin’s high fiber content may reduce the absorption of these antibiotics. Take pectin two hours before or four hours after tetracycline antibiotics. Digoxin (Lanoxin): Pectin may decrease digoxin absorption. Take pectin four hours before or one hour after digoxin. Lovastatin (Mevacor): Pectin can affect lovastatin absorption. Remember that while pectin has potential benefits, it’s essential to consult a healthcare professional before using it for specific health conditions.

Fascinating! I just bought an older Oster and have honey wheat bread baking now. The accompanying book has jam recipes! Also cakes! I don't see a yogurt recipe. Any advice on how to possibly do that in my machine? Could I use the jam setting????

You don't have to mash just like you don't have to peel...however that being said...some skins are stubborn...grapes for example...went through a whole cycle...smelled like jam, tasted like jam but the texture was wrong. Sent it through another cycle and perfect. Apples, grapes and blueberries seem to need 2 cycles on my machine. I'm thinking it also might be the volume (3 lbs) ...so if it doesn't jam in one cycle...do two.

I like the Jam spread, you end up actually using less. I believe it’s simply thinner so probably I will just add a bit of water then I can easily spread it easily and not loose flavor or the enjoyment of the product

Yes you can just cook it for less time so less of the water boils off! :) enjoy!

Hi my name is Sheridan I’m from Melbourne Australia I have a breville bakers Dozen bread machine it has a gluten free bread setting as well as I’m celiac and has a jam setting the recipe is for strawberry and Rhubarb and Acai jam which I don’t like I’d like to do a cherry jam do you have a recipe please

No pectin! All the jams I’ve made are pectin-free because the lemon juice will help to thicken it up
