I smiled when your wonderful Dad said that you could wash out the bags the blackberries were in and use them again. I come from Brits and this is exactly how I look at re-using things. If it can be recycled, then we do so. Also loved the cupboards full of jam. Your Dad is a treasure for sure.

My father suffers from Alzheimer's Disease. This has been very painful to watch my father forget our names and memories of the past. I agree, my dad passed when I was too young to know how valuable his stories were and my mom suffers from dementia. It's such a loss and each time I see Harry, I feel overwhelming gratitude that Nicki and her family have his stories and a way to record them and treasure them forever.

But the Brits love their jam. Did you ever see Hope & Glory? Takes place in the suburbs of London during WWII. The dad comes home on leave with a can of German jam. It washed up after a ship was bombed. Hesitant at first, the family had been without for too long. The dig in with spoons 😂

I nearly cried! It bought back memories of my dad, he passed away in 2013 at the age of 97. He would cook down figs for fig jam, had a big fig tree, and yes he put bits of lemon 🍋 in while cooking! That was a nice surprise. As children we often went blackberry picking and Mum made jam. Our instruction was always to never pick from the lower part of the bushes because dogs might have peed on them. 😁Wise words!

His cupboards are most definitely full-to-overflowing with jam (dare I say "jam-packed"?). Loved every minute of it -- thanks so much for filming this and sharing Harry with the world.

I love Harry - what an encouraging and practical man. With some creative accounting you and a suitcase will be able to fly from Naples to film new episodes of your Dad's stories. Tucked up in a cosy corner eating hearty soup ? Interestingly, only the MEN in my aunt's extended family made the blackberry jam. They lived on large sheep stations in Australia so blackberries were plentiful: blackberry pies were the specialty of my aunt and my mother. Their secret was an extra small egg yolk added to the pastry which was made by hand using a wide bladed bone knife. Another idea was to add five cardamom pods and half a split vanilla pod to fig jam which takes fig jam to another level. I watch 'Kylie Flavell - you tube' last weekend and she had some lovely meal ideas. She is an Australian girl married to Guido living in Tuscany. "Healthy Breakfast and Lunch Ideas" was this weekend's video. Kylie (is 9 months pregnant which will not interest your Dad but she) is an extraordinarily gifted filmmaker which I think he will enjoy and in the middle of renovating, with the occasional recipe. Thank you Nicki. What a beautiful way to spend 13 minutes.

Awww this reminded me of my nana. My grandparents grew 27 varieties of fruit and my nana would make jam and marmalade. She did this into her 80s. My mum also makes jam and like your dad, has a couple of cupboards with plenty of jars full of yummy jam. And oddly enough my husband's dad owned a factory that made jam covers.
