Can I give you a tip. Cut the moulds out entirely and just use the corn starch. Place into a inch deep tray, buy a corn starch candy mould or make your own, to create the indents then pour into the starch and leave to set, I used to make a lot of turkish delight years ago, along with other confectionery as christmas gifts, and this was always the way that got the best results. The trick is to get the starch pressed down tight using a block then push your mold into it and then pour the ingredients in.

I am going to try so hard to do this using agar agar instead of gelatin and confectioners sugar that does not have corn. Fingers crossed. I know I’m 10 years late but I just wanted to pop in and say thankee for the vid! I’m a T1D and jellybeans are one of my favorite ways to treat (and admittedly sometimes over-treat) my low blood sugars and I wanted to start making my own at home to help with more precise carb counting (and also the ability to create a bag of only citrus flavored jelly beans😂) and this helped enormously, especially the tip with the icing sugar to add that outer shell! Thank you Todd!

@Todd's Kitchen : 'Love this video! So straight-forward and easy to follow - and you present really well, by the way. You're clearly very talented; keep up the good work! Just one small question, as I'm thinking of trying this recipe out myself... For flavouring the mix - before pouring it into a mold - could you use alcoholic drinks? And if so, in the case of carbonated beverages, would you need to let them go flat first?

Perhaps trying a small plastic dropper to put the fluid into the molds and stirring while pouring in the gelatin will help prevent clumping.

I have some ideas for ways you might improve this recipe. I wonder if it might be better if you: 1.Put cornstarch in molds to make them release easier (especially the silicone one)? 2.Apply powdered sugar coating to beans by shaking in a sealed plastic bag? 3.Dry coated beans in a food dehydrator? Also, you could give the candies a cool looking marbled color by using a toothpick to add a TINY drop of food color to each one in the mold and swirling it around.
@MrAnxZiety11 жыл бұрын
Jelly beans actually use shellac for the hard amd shiny outer shell. Disturbing right?
@simpleeasycooking11 жыл бұрын
You can do it without but as for how much flavoured then i have no idea sorry
@Anthares2k11 жыл бұрын
Sugar is hydroscopic, that is it tends to absorb water. If you put them in the fridge, which has obviously quite high humidity, they will keep absorbing humidity and won't harden. Sugar coating is by tradition a way to preserve food. So, dont worry, there wont be any mold growing.

Hey, I make something similar.. it's actually a version of Frye's Turkish Delight... but I bet it would work on these too... after a day of drying and coating in the powdered sugar... I wonder if you placed them in a dehydrator on low for 4-6 hours if you would get the gummier chewiness that you get with store bought jelly beans.. just a thought.. :) Excellent recipe! I have subscribed!
