#joong #zongzi #stickyricedumpling
Today we are making Zongzi or Joong, which is a Chinese sticky rice dumpling that is wrapped in bamboo leaves. It is also known as a Chinese tamale. This is a traditional Chinese food that is usually made once a year for the Dragon Boat Festival.
There are many varieties of joong, which include savory ones with or without meat, and sweet ones such as with bean paste. I grew up eating savory Cantonese joong with pork belly, Chinese sausage, salted egg yolks, and nuts. This video documents a culinary tradition shared from my aunties-from shopping for the ingredients to prepping, and the art of wrapping the joongs.
