i just found navajo grandma. I immediately fell in love with her. She reminds me of my grandma and my aunt. I cant call her grandma because we are close in age but i will call her sister. My grandmother was apache and my grandfather was mexican and some part native american indian. I want so badly to learn about the true history of my people. I wish i could live on a rez for a year to learn something. Our history is amazing but not told in truth in schools like on the rez. Thank you Navajo grandma for the videos, i feel like i am listening to my grandmas teachings. She died when i was 8 but she taught me so much. So happy to have found these videos.

Sandra thank you for sharing your life and who you are. Thank you for loving such wonderful grandparents who loved you. It doesn't matter which tribe its the teachings we remember with love. Yes, living on the reservation would help but your eyes would become open to how hard it would be and pretty sure you would pack up and go home to running water, warm water, showers, and down the street for whatever needs you want. Here its not like that and never has been. Its cold, but the fire is warm, you make everything from scratch, there is wisdom in prayer and making everyday count and not lay in bed. Chopping wood, getting up early to pray even when its freezing outside, getting naked when the 2nd snow storm comes and you roll in it and scream to the top of your lungs, then learning to take raw herbs and make something either medicinally or food to eat. This is nothing what I just said. Its a hard life to make you truly hardy. A true eye opener. For us it is life. Navajo Grandma

@@NavajoGrandma You mean so much to us. My grandparents were a major part of my childhood because my parents fought, and as much as my grandparents loved me and I loved being with them, looking back, there was a massive amount of dysfunction coming from them towards me and it makes the memory of them much different these days. I was extremely drawn to numerous aspects of various indigenous cultures as a child and know that having you teach me the things you teach now on KZbin, to me as a child, would be a dream come true. You are so loved & appreciated! Much love & many blessings.

@@ElvenEarthTenders Thank you Ariel. Grandma hopes you subscribe, watch, listen and learn. I so appreciate that you find value in learning from the teachings of my NALI and Bizhi. It’s plain everyday learning I am sharing, things done during the months, etc. Thank you and realize there is dysfunctional families, but we can remember the goodness of each individual, you will always find a silver lining within them. Maybe just knowing with forgiveness that without your grandparents you would not exist, think of how critical they are. Then be grateful, it doesn’t mean they didn’t do what they did, but there were good times, you did learn other things that have taught you to be wise, like, you never wanting to be argumentive, to being a peace maker, so bring that out. Instead of saying my grandparents argued a lot and it was awful, instead speak this…my grandparents taught me to being a peacemaker and learning that loving each other was foremost and I thank my grades grandparents for teaching me these values. Boom, how much more positive is that. I know your grandparents will appreciate it whether they are alive or in the spirit world. Paw paw paw, empower yourself by turning negatives into positives. Feel good about Gma and gpa. Without them you would not exist. How precious. Love you Ariel. Navajo Grandma

I am sorry your grandparents are in the spirit world now but one thing you can count on is that their love for their posterity is beyond this earth life in so much more depth and care. They are watching over you more and when you listen you will sense their love and wisdom for you. Everything they are now is spiritual and thus it behooves us to be likewise so we can know their thoughts and their wisdom and protection and prayers for us here that are left on earth. The spirit world is here on this earth but in another sphere but don't you worry you are heard, they know you, they see you and yes they become your angels. What a Godly plan but to have those who have moved onto the spirit world to become our angels. We are their posterity and it would only be so Godly that their deep love for us blesses us as they now know the real Plan of God. They have only progressed and know more and we haven't yet. Our blessing is still in play here to bless, serve, and help others with unconditional love the best we know how. It is now our Godly responsibility to do what they did. They left a great legacy to follow and I pray you will remember them, trace their lives, get to know them and thru that you will come to know yourself and where you came from and whence you came from. It truly is a great joy and healing to come to know yourself thru your ancestors. Hugs and love from your Navajo Grandma for now. As far as I am concerned you are my grandchild for now and pray you will know you matter here and grandma does listen and answers all your comments even in the throws of a crazy re-count in this sad corrupt Navajo Nation. God help us all. Hugs from your Grandma for now. Navajo Grandma

Just discovered your videos and I am thoroughly enjoying the information you share. I grew up just outside of the Navajo Reservation in the state of New Mexico. I always had an appreciation for the Navajo people, learning only a few years ago that my very own Great Grandmother had Navajo heritage. As a 76 year old I look back at my fascination with all that is Navajo, their garments, the weaving, silver and turquoise jewelry and cuisine, I realize how my own life included the Navajo influence. I have embraced my Navajo heritage and truly enjoy learning more about this peaceful nature loving culture. Thank you for sharing!

I hope your kids and grandkids do not make the same mistake I did by not appreciating their culture as it is a very special thing and they ahould be very proud of their history and all of the wisdom in the native american culture. I wish this country realized how special you are and treated all indigenous people with the respect you all deserve. I love seeing this! I found these in the high desert and learned about them many years ago and then wove the beads into baskets. They are so pretty, I don't wear jewelry much but I love weaving and finding the berries to make into beads for baskets. I didn't know it was a thing to eat the outer parts but I loved nibbling them and I also saved them to cook with. .i still have a little jar of really old (now) dried berries with me and i add a few to certain soups and even turkey dressing and it's so special to have that part of life remembered again. Each time using them is like a little prayer and thank you to the trees that shaded me and provided some of their fruits. I remember them all. You made such a beautiful video, thank you. -Dorothy

Wow, thank you and so grateful that you take the time to watch and learn. My husband is an Aussie from Brisbane. I read this comment to him and I know it moves his heart. He hasn't been home for 20plus years. His parents died when he was here and they told him, don't come as it will be over and you need to keep your family there. He really feels sad but I know one day he might. He had a stroke in December and cannot fly or drive a car. Thus I am mostly his caretaker. His mind is bright still though. love you Aussies. Hugs. @@taylahpiel4394 Taylah, what wonderful words of Hozho (beauty, peace, balance & beauty), thank you for your kind words for my husband. When he sees a license plate or window stickers people put on their back windows with the Australia Continent, he shouts, "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie," I see some tears in his eyes that he tries to hide when he watches them drive on. He misses home but he won't relent that he wants to stay here with me. He was brash when I met him, no kind words to me, he quit his job to come here to Utah at the time I was living with my youngest daughter and decided he was going to stay. No asking, I was shocked, then he asked me to marry him, I did not like him, he wasn't koshered nor well mannered and he still has a problem with it, but one day I got so sick of him asking me to marry him, I yelled at him told him to go back to Texas for good. I was angry. I stormed home, got on my knees & reported to Heavenly Father. I told him why is this weirdo after me, he is so uncooth, he burps loud, he farts when he sleeps, he has bad breath, he seems not to be bothered by anything, and he just keeps staying here!! I then said what I probably didn't realize what I said, "If you want me to marry this fool, he won't leave, he has no job, he quit his job, Heavenly Father you know he is a leach, but he won't stop asking me to marry him. Ok, so (I thought I was smart) we don't have any rings, no nothing, so "if" you believe I am to marry this fool, then show me." (Now remember I think I am smarter than God). I happily went to sleep with complete faith that God would maybe strike this fool down and we would be done and no more foolishness. (you see I had been single for 17 years not allowing any man into my house(except a preacher) or my sons). I was calm and with complete faith in God I slept comfortable. Whoa, I was awaken 3 times with a dream wherein, I got in my convertible, backed up, drove straight to my friend's jewelry store, walked in and he had the rings I so was happy to announce to God we did not have. This dream happened 3 exact times. That morning I had clients in another city, who called me and said due to some circumstances they would need to cancel for a week. Thus I was free. I ate breakfast, reading my scriptures, I prayed, all of a sudden again, that same dream came in a really short way, and I was told to go follow my dream I had dreamt 3 times that nite. I thought, oh heavens what could that hurt. Thus I did and drove exactly did what I had done in my dream.
@NavajoGrandma
@NavajoGrandma 3 жыл бұрын
Long story short, my jewelry friend said, you keep praying while I look for rings I know I don't have but knowing me he said, look if it came from God, I will check, 45 minutes later he brought out a tiny platinum set so small. So his friend came to work, he was told why I was there, he then said, okay this sounds strange and we shall see as he glared at me. I sat steadfast. (Now remember i refused to marry this fool, but here I am following that dream and demanding there was a set of wedding rings here as my dream showed me and I wanted proof) "psycho." So then they came out 30 minutes later with a set of rings, size 10, size 7. Hells bells, it was our exact sizes, they said, we have never seen this set of rings, we looked & looked, but I think its the ones God made you dream about. Whoa!!! My friend said, here take them, they are yours from God. I took them knowing what I was doing. Oh my Gosh!! It actually made me happy!! Weirdo!!
@NavajoGrandma
@NavajoGrandma 3 жыл бұрын
I drove straight to his house, he came out, I yelled at him, threw him the box and said, "try that on for size." (crude I know). Then I went to the back of the car, I lifted the trunk, all of a sudden its like the movies, no cars moved, they stopped, birds stopped chirping, everything was frozen around me, it just couldn't be. I then heard a voice to my upper left side in the air, the voice stated, "you will not marry this man in 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, one year, you will marry him today at 6pm." I being disrespectful objected, I said "but we have nothing, I don't love him." Then the voice asked, "will you be valiant? "I said of course I am valiant," I felt perturbed I would be asked such. Then again it was repeated, you will not marry him in 2 weeks, ....you will marry him today." "Will you be valiant, I said yes, and that persons voice was gone, everything started moving again. I got in the car, he said the ring fit perfect (ugh) mine fit perfect too (more ugh). I made a promise to God I figured, so I told my now husband, we are getting married, he sighed and said I knew you would marry me, (hate him), then I said, we are getting married this evening at 6pm. He almost fainted, don't worry I was having a hard time breathing too. So I called a Judge, its friday now, and about 11:30am. Judge Davis of all people answered, I told him I am looking for a Judge to marry us. He started to get excited, he said, "I knew I was to marry someone today at 6pm, he said I got the vacuum and cleaned up my office, I fixed up my books, its looking great, I am ready to marry you folks by 6pm." Okay I thought, this is nuts!! So i figure it was true. The judge had the same last name of my so called groom. Thus we got married. I wasn't happy, I cried thru my ceremony, invited only my sister & her fiance'. It was tough, its been 20 some years, its been tough, but I see why I married him, put together by God with him. Now I love him. I remember my dad saying when him and mom were put together, they saw each other for the first time, he was pleased, my mom said dad's boots were goofy, he had highwater pants rolled up, but he was sorta cute. But they loved each other always and like dad said, he just loved her more and more. He would blubber if he had to go out of town and he would have my brother drive my mother wherever so he could be with her. We are inseparable, he is with me day in day out. Drives me nuts but when he is not with me, I miss him dearly. I then realize how much I need him and love him. So is my nutty story of an Aussie like gum on my shoes. Hope you like this story. Washing your face and body in a small tub, cool water never hot. Working by hand in everything that needs to be prepared for food, for sustenance and then working with our hands taking care of a garden, feeding the chickens, gathering the eggs, fixing the fences, preparing the ground for planting, and learning to shear wool, butcher a sheep with a clean kosher cut, fixing the inrails I think it is called, cooking, making bread, grinding, carding, spinning, finding plants for dyeing and washing wool. Not always a pleasant smell. You would not stay up but go to sleep when the sun goes down. You would like this for a few days then you would complain. I know. Grandma

As a jewelery vendor we sell what we make and other Navajo artists work too and I noticed that people are becoming more reluctant to buy anything from us because they don't want to be accused of cultural appropriation. I told them that for us that is how we make our living as well as the other artists that we buy from and if no one buys our work then it puts a lot of us out of business. If people did this back in my grandmother's day she wouldn't have been able to support her family as a rug weaver. Just as Navajo Grandma said it is truly all hogwash what people today are doing to eachother, the bracelet you were given will protect you from evil people and spirits, wear it bravely.

Sent in my ballot to AZ. Last vote they didn't count my vote. I drove down to the county & asked why as I walked into the booth & voted Trump. They said it says you didn't vote. I spoke a few French words as i gave them the place I voted & sure enough there was my signature. They said we're sorry sometimes these machines have hiccups. Yeah right. I mailed in mine with prayer. Love you my dear Talitha. Pray always pretty girl, with your family. We need to stand together in prayer. Hugs eternally! Navajo Grandma

Thank you so much Grandma. This is a beautiful video teaching. My Grandma taught me how to make many things, & now I’m remembering how she passed her skills on to us children. In 1975 my friend a Taino went away to visit the Navaho people, he told me he would be in ceremony with them for a while. When he returned he brought me one of these necklaces, he called them juniper beads. After watching you make these, and hearing your explanation of each step, I appreciate them so much more. I can think of the person who made them so long ago & remember the friend who brought them to me. Blessings to you Grandma🌿🦋

I hope you find some and maybe try to find ones where there is plenty of water or where waterfalls exist and the trees are at the bottom. There is where you will find good sized berries (didze'). Arianne, thank you for your kind comment. I have helped a lot of Rancherias move toward Federal Recognition there in California, also the sad things that happen from Casino payouts and then those who disenrolled first member families off their reservation and left them homeless by deceptions. It happens in almost every tribe when a Casino becomes a part of the tribe. Sad. But anyway, let me know when you are in the area. I do not live in Arizona, nor do I live in AZ anymore. @@NavajoGrandma I just watched a You tube video called "Off grid Shed Tiny House in Navajo Nation.-under 10 k." A young Dine couple named Vernita and Travis created a really cool place for themselves on their families land for under 10 K. Not easy in the cities to find a place but it appears that on the Rez they were able to set up their tiny house. My son made one but it has not been easy in Northern CA to find a place to park it. I am not sure what people do when it gets summer hot in the summer.

Thank you Sandra. There is great meaning to "remembering" as it gives us wholeness, belonging, treasured teachings, traditions, customs, thinking, togetherness, foundation, that are becoming RARE today and will even be trampled upon even more from others, our family members, neighbors and gov't in the days to come. This is the reason I am here, to help strengthen you thru the darkness, to see light in all things no matter how dismal it may become in whatever circumstances will find ourselves in. God is with us and will hear our cries, mercies, and will show us miracles that He Lives and is truly everything. Our ancestors if they could speak right now, would reiterate what I just said. May you always remember. It is your strength. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma
