Re-watching the video..... at 2 a.m.! Ha ha ha. I just made a bunch of these for my downriggers, turned out ok. Should have watched this again before doing it. Oops! One thing that I did do, dot know if you've tried it, but to make star knobs, I started out using a hole saw, pressed down with the drill press to make the line marking multiple knobs. Then I used a forstner bit, in the press, and cut out the indent at 4 spits all around. On the inside knobs, I only had to make 2-3 indents as I finished cutting out the knobs. Then I finished them out like yours. Hope that this makes sense. Great video

I ordered some coupling nuts today. Now I will have an oversupply of every kind of insert, bolt, and nut needed. By the way, I also designed some myself on paper with a compass, protractor, and ruler. I drew them big. Then, I scanned them, reduced them to a good size, printed them out, and stuck them to paper.. I then copied and printed those out. I will stick them to boards with spray adhesive, cut them roughly to size, and sand them on my bench /spindle sander, like you.

I need a wooden knob for my leather working stitching pony. I bought some small plastic knobs but having a wooden one would probably be more comfortable. Good stuff. Anyone belt out of shape about knob jokes hasn't spent much time on the internet. I hope you have thick skin to shrug their comments off. Oh and I love the red fast forward notification in the corner. And the Preppin' Weapon sanding blocks are great. I love their larger surface area over most blocks. I have four of them in a holster box that separates them. I got that idea from a woodworking magazine that had a lady with a badass shop that did the same.

Thanks! And I do agree with you about people being offended by the humor. I mean, have these people seen TV lately? As far as feel is concerned, I actually like the knobs that Rockler sells - they're rubbery, and they're relatively inexpensive. I have a bunch of them. But after a while, the cost does add up. Great idea about the holster for the sanding blocks. Love it!

another great video. early in the video you mentioned the size selection for hardware. buying extra is always a good idea. last year I did a video on hardware strategy in the small shop. basically, you choose a one size standard for all shop projects (I chose 1/4x20 for my shop). now I design everything with that size hardware and I keep everything I can relating to 1/4x20. such as nuts, locking nuts, bolts, carriage bolts, etc. This makes it easier to store and buy a bigger variety of hardware in larger quantities. That video might give you some ideas for future video subjects. keep up the great videos :>)

LOL. There's several things I could have done more provocatively. :)

Very true. I grew up in a family that always tried to one-up each other with puns and double-entendres. So if I let myself loose, it could get ugly. 😱

Great video! A few questions about the coupling nut... 1. do you use any glue? 2. What size hole do you drill... I would like to use a 1/4 bolt and make the knob out of hardwood... would that be maple? Thanks!!!!
@TheNewbieWoodworker3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I didn't use any glue. You can either hammer the nut in, or if you have a vise, use that to squeeze it in. I can't remember what size hole I drilled, but measure the nut from flat side to the opposite flat side, then measure it from one "corner" to the opposite corner, and split the difference. Try it out on some scrap wood first, the same material as you'll be using. Also, soft wood like pine can handle a smaller hole, whereas hard wood may need a bigger hole. Maple would probably work just fine, but like I said try it out first - maple can be brittle sometimes so if the hole is too small, you could crack it.

You had me at the beginning! There's soooooooo many things & innuendos here! Ha ha ha! Quick question: have you ever used T - Nuts when building knobs? Super useful. Thank you sir!
@TheNewbieWoodworker5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! 😄I haven't used T-Nuts for knobs, but I've used them for plenty of other things.

Do you have avideo on how to make the drill stand?
@TheNewbieWoodworker4 жыл бұрын
No, I never made a video on it. But here's what I'd do, if I ever made another one: www.woodsmithplans.com/plan/drill-press-table/
