this looks like a perfect recipe for a crockpot slow cooker. I was given about 50 seed soup peas . Im going to grow them in Ireland. And make this. Thanks.

Amazing. I'm 75, and my dad was Latvian, born in 1912-- a non-combatant survivor of WWI, came here in 1921. My ma was Polish born in the US but her first language was Polish. This is EXACTLY the way soups were made in my house growing up, and it is how I make soup now. The principles of this recipe can be applied to many soups and soup-like preparations like pinto beans or blackeyes. I cook the meat separately; when it's half done I cut off the meat from the bones, and put the bones and remains into the soup. At the end I fish out the bones and put back the pieces I cut off at the half-way point. I use the leftover broth from cooking the meat to regulate the saltiness and thickness of the product before serving. AND, don't forget the sour cream.

I'm from West Bromwich in the Black Country, and it's a traditional dish for us too, I was really shocked when I visited Riga to find that they were eaten somewhere else! 😊😊😊
