I had an MK5 GLI back in the day...there's a pipe that routes some of the air from the charge pipe into the cabin of the car (for noise). Its a good mod to delete it, you'll get better throttle response. I used a home depot test plug to seal the hole after i deleted the pipe 🤣 it's ghetto but it worked!
@RatchetWrenches2 жыл бұрын
Hahah we actually just did that the other day! I did that on my old GTI back in the day too but it’s def a must do cheap mod!

I don't see anyone saying it but the old intake kit installed is the apr carbonio kit. Yeah, its real carbon fiber, and I bet you even had the reusable filter in the stock air box. Kind of a rare part these days. I still have mine from years back.

Thanks for confirming this! That's pretty cool actually

I know this is a bit late at a year later but did you guys ever go back and address the boost leak at the intercooler inlet where you didn't have seal on the bung when you installed it ( @14:05 time stamp). I did the exact ESC turbo muffler delete and charge pipe to cooler kit on my MK5 and noticed how rattly the bung sounded when you installed it and re-watched that section and noticed no seal. I had also done the polished ECS cold air version of what you guys used - I really like the sound, just enough inlet noise but not obnoxious
@RatchetWrenches8 ай бұрын
We never did nah ended up selling the car shortly after.

What are your impressions with that carbonio? Was there any noisier sound compared to the factory air hose? Was it noticeable on the gas pedal? I like the design and the fact that it pushes air into the factory filter box as soon as the car starts moving.
@RatchetWrenches3 ай бұрын
Unfortunately we couldn't compare because we bought the car with that intake on it. But comparing it to the ECS Tuning intake, the ECS was significantly louder and sounded way better. You could see the filter bending slightly when you hammered the gas it was pulling a lot of air in

@RatchetWrenches Жыл бұрын
You can use any inlet pipe because that’s a standard size so any brand you’d want it’ll be the same size

I just bought a 2008 gti t-fsi What year is this? Mileage? Mine is at 73k right now. What maintenance should i make sure to do?
@RatchetWrenches Жыл бұрын
Awesome you'll love the car! This was a 2007. Besides an oil change if it needs it, I'd just do a thorough check over all of fluids, suspension, brakes and tires. I believe 60k maintenance was more important so make sure the previous owner did that.

Is there a reason to delete the “noise pipe”? I’m new to the gti scene and just looking at a reason to take it apart😂
@RatchetWrenches2 жыл бұрын
Removing it will create a better throttle response and also you’ll have some cool turbo sounds inside the cabin! Other then that though there’s not many reasons to remove it hahah
@sweetandsour6521 Жыл бұрын
do you think the charge pipe upgrade worth it with stock turbo?

Have the mk6 gti version of the intake with silicon tubes and without the heatshield, but the intake noises only are noticeable when driving in sport mode. Would the headshield fix this, or would i need to remove the hood insulation?
@RatchetWrenches Жыл бұрын
You can try to remove the heat shield I don’t think it will increase much noise. Only downside to that is the turbo/exhaust will heat soak the intake and possibly mess with the airflow. Now you can remove the hood insulation that should help yes. I’m not to familiar with the mk6 but does it have the noise pipe? If so remove that and you’ll really increase your intake nose

I know plenty of fast cars that are loud intentionally.

Interesting the different sounds people like . I cant stand the noise my intake pipe makes , to the point I find it embarassing . The heat shield for the filter does nothing at all but look nice and clog up the engine bay , you need an actual sealed box system to the front grill ( like the stock set up ) or your just sucking in hot turbo ambient air . Side note , if anyone I know saw me wearing gloves while wrenching all respect would be lost
