6:08 - You can use the UV Squares addon! After installing it, press N on the UV Editor and there will be a menu for it. With a line of quads selected, you can straighten them with it.

Thank you for the emphasis on texture tiling! Often videos about low-poly modeling are with the flat texturing, so it's really cool to see one for projects not focused on minimalism!

wait this is going to be so useful for making our peices fit in your world better, gonna have to put this on next time I hop on to work on WWU

Theres not near enough videos and documentation on this kind of thing. Thanks for making this.

And this is what I wish more games used rather than heightmap terrain because, in my experience with older games that did do this, this is easier to navigate both for the player and the AI. In modern games a vast variety of navigation problems show up when transitioning from the terrain onto a prop such as stairs, when climbing a slope, when stepping from one prop to another, when trying to create verticality...

It really is sick seeing how much effort goes into stuff like this, never ceases to wow me

If you're working with quads, you can pretty easily straighten out a UV island using the textools addon.

Ngl I couldn't ignore how large your jacket strings are WTF LOLL looks like straight up rope. Since I'm here, I'll give some input, if I may. As a 3D character artist of 5 years professionally, and overall 3D artist of a bit more - this video is very valid in the 3d space for it's content and offers a direct-to-life example of how to manage such a cool workflow like this. Definitely a good to watch vid for any level of 3d artist, new or old. Anyways, Much love - amazing vid as always.

Thanks for this tutorial, I enjoy using Blender as well as I have some 3D modelling experience and one day I will eventually 3D model a level

Nice!!! That is way too cool for how you do all the terrain modelling and texturing.

Random recommendation brought me here. Not going to say the style speaks to me, but I do think I learned some things that'll help me in the future.

Are the rocks seperate models or are they apart of the ground? anyways this was a wonderful video
@windwakerhyrule8 күн бұрын
I added them separately, the rock model is just half of a scaled Icosphere Primitive, but I edited it all within the same object

if it's any validation, even i, who's never used any 3d program whatsoever as i just do traditional art forms, understood this easily

This is amazing. This year I aim to learn how to model terrain for my own leisure project and you're a great inspiration for me! One question I have (out of thousands actually) is if you're using any add-on or is it all in vanilla Blender?
@windwakerhyrule6 күн бұрын
That’s awesome! And I’m not using any addons. Let me know if you have any other questions too!

@@windwakerhyrule Oh it's mostly my personal struggle with Blender. I found my bearings quite easily with Sketchup and while it works as a creative outlet, I feel it too limited. I'm not sure how, but maybe someday I can fully embark it in Blender.
@windwakerhyrule5 күн бұрын
Nice, good luck! I started out with Sketchup myself, but Blender’s extra features have made a world of difference
@henrique88t4 күн бұрын
@@windwakerhyrule Thanks! So you started with SketchUp too? There's hope for me then! Was the transition much of a hassle for you?

finally a low poly terrain tutorial that is actually helpful rather than using noise to make a scene to render in that ugly untextured cartoony look

Having 15% of an entire video nothing but sponsored ads is egregious. lmao
