Your videos are so amazing! I cannot thank you enough for the advice you have given. I am now nearly 30yrs old and for over 10yrs (seriously!) I have had a story playing around in my head that I have wanted to turn into a manga. I am an artist and have been drawing since before I can remember, I love it! But I just don't enjoy drawing digitally anywhere near as much as I do traditionally. I feel I have more control with a pencil/pen on paper than a stylus on a tablet. Plus I get frustrated when I can't figure out how to get the effect I want in colouring digitally, when traditionally I've never had that problem. I have been driving myself mad to the point where I give up when it comes to not knowing how to properly create a manga traditionally. I've never been able to figure out the best way to write it in preparation of a manga/comic or the tools and equipment I needed. I also really appreciate that you take the time to add links to online stores that sell everything you use! I have ADD so I struggle to keep my focus on something, which causes me to give up when I get frustrated and I struggle to research things myself because I can't take the information in properly or store it in my memory xD. You making these vids have been beyond a life saver for me and my ambition! If I ever forget anything, I can just re-watch your vids! I hope you understand how amazing you are and how much your fans appreciate you and the effort you put into your extremely detailed tutorials. Thank you

@MyMangakaLIFE8 жыл бұрын
OMG ❤️ You're too kind for thinking so!! 0///0 But don't worry! It gets easier with lots of practice! :D Making panels is a skill and you have to reeeally focus on thinking of your story like you're watching a tv show. Think of what you want the viewer to see, where is the camera aiming at? Is the camera next to the person talking? Is the camera aimed at the item the character is holding? Things like that! :D Over time it'll become so easy it'll become second nature (but again, it takes lots of practice because making panels properly is a storytelling skill. And telling a story well takes lots of practice)
@jtmis35038 жыл бұрын
My Mangaka LIFE Waahhh.. you replied again. umm... I would like to request a video about when to draw the background in the panel, hehe. i have SUCH a hard time with this part which is y i dont think ill ever be able to make a manga. im good with the writing part. the drawing part will be a bit of a struggle cause i still struggle with different poses and angles and what not, but at least that is possible to figure out by looking at reference photots. the panel planning though, near impossible. i just dont kno what the best way to arrange it is, even though ive read so much manga. plus how do backgrounds even work. cause sometimes they arnt even in the panel at all - like just a blank white or black or grey, and other times they are detailed. and then you have to be good at drawing buildings and trees and stuff which is a whole other story. plus tones and bubbles and lines add even more effects. there are just a lot of things that you dont notice when you read a manga, that you realize are important details when you actually have to make one yourself. X__X but you are quite inspiring so i will not give up just yet i guess. thanks for your tutorials

+mylife asraven OMG I'm sorry my dear!! ; A ; If you look through your manga you'll see they don't usually have more than 6 or 7 panels. It just becomes too crowded and makes the process hard for the reader. But if it makes you feel better, I first drew my manga when I was 14 years old and of COURSE to publish it professionally I had to redraw all 100+ pages on professional paper etc. etc. ^__^;; You'll be fine, hon! You can always just continue to the rest of your manga with less panels per page and in the future when you feel like it, you can redraw the first 24 pages

i heard some mangaka spend days and hours on pages or even panels. some( like toriyama akira) get only 20 minutes of sleep. but u make it look easy to make a manga lol
@MyMangakaLIFE9 жыл бұрын
That's 100% true! I've been known to only get 3 hours of sleep a night for weeks XD Being a mangaka is CRAZY demanding but I love it so much! ♡ My tutorials can not prepare you for the hard work that goes into actually making a manga; all I can show you is how it's done and offer my advice. Developing your skills and storytelling abilities is completely up to you. So don't be mistaken by my straightforward method of teaching: making Manga is ANYTHING but easy LOL

lol thank you for responding its like i have so much good ideas but im really bad at drawing. i think because one of my friends said i cant draw so now i want my pictures to be perfect. . also, ( sorry if this is to long lol), will pictures come out better if you put paper that flat metal board instead of a text book.

Don't listen to negativity and just work hard. Practice everyday, take classes if you can, and just try to challenge yourself. I have a video called "How to Improve Your Art" that may be helpful to you ♡ And also keep in mind that you can always join forces with another artist to create your Manga in the future (after signing a contract stating that you own the rights). Also, can you reiterate your question please? I'm not sure what you're asking me (so sorry, hon)
@bigpapasub24109 жыл бұрын
in your how to draw manga part 3 i think,lol, you put a peice of paper on this slanted table and i have seen other artist use that to. but i put my paper on text books.

oh no you didnt im so sorry if im confusing you. if i could put i picture i would. all i know that some mangaka use a slanted table when they draw. im new to this art thing

Hi! Well uhm... I just started to watch your videos and I've always wanted to publish a manga but I wonder if the story necessary have to go from left to right? Hope you can help me ♥
@MyMangakaLIFE7 жыл бұрын
Hello my dear! ♡ I hope my vids have been helpful for you ^///^ And to answer your question: the format of your manga (left-to-right or right-to-left) is really up to the artist and the feel they want :) I chose the Japanese format (right-to-left) to give it a more authentic reading experience (and it is sold in the manga section of stores as well because it is considered "manga") but, again, the format you choose is up to you ♡ Good luck and feel free to ask questions, sweetie ♡ +Michii Betancourth

I don't know if somebody asked you before here, but here it goes; I know that an artist can chose on how his/her piece of art could look, but referring strictly to manga are there some dos and don'ts? I mean, in some pages we see some different patterns for clothing, shading... etc And... is there a strict code? Because sometimes I see the shading in a manga as a screen tone, and in some just a little darker color to indicate that. I was always wondering :D Maybe it sound stupid... but what the heck if you are such a sweet expert :*
@MyMangakaLIFE9 жыл бұрын
There really aren't any STRICT do's and don'ts when you create your Manga; There are hundreds of different ways to express mood through panels and hundreds of ways to render fabrics (i.e. making fabric entirely black, textured, fill it with crosshatching or with stippling techniques). So, in the end, your goal should be to express the mood of the scene as best as you can, and use all means necessary to get the mood and feel if the scene across in your panels. Advice that I can give is to pay attention to the mood of each panel and try not to place too many panels back-to-back that have the same camera angle (like, showing a profile of the characters for 3 or 4 panels in a row). It will be very boring for the reader. Also, try not to leave your backgrounds white too often. Your reader will get confused and not know where the scene is taking place. Also, unless the character is blonde, try not to leave their hair white in your manga. Don't be afraid to experiment and try different ways of expressing emotions through your panels. Have fun with it ♡

Hiya miss Mangaka LIFE! Im just curious about something: Personally I really struggle to write scipts, and doing so causes me to loose interest, as do other methods you suggested in part one. What id do however, is keep a mental note of everything in my head and keep sort of a script up there as well, then write out thumbnails for the pages and add the dialog into these thumbnails. Is this a bad method to use? Also, will you ever consider making a video about story writing? I can understand how that would be harder to talk about, and since its easier to illustrate how to draw it makes sense to stick with that. Its just something youve never really addressed all that much in your videos and it is half of your work, so its a little weird not seeing it, lol. :3 Thanks for reading :p
@MyMangakaLIFE9 жыл бұрын
Your method works for the most part, but if you're like me, I want to have my work copywritten at some point, and therefore, it needs to be written out. Also, ppl need to have something to refer to to be sure that they haven't overlooked any details and the process of writting will help develop your story. My fiancé is a total hater of writing his stories down, but understands he needs to (he's a mangaka too ♡) There have been NUMEROUS times where he was glad he wrote notes about his stories otherwise that information would have been completely forgotten. And yes: creating a story is the most important part (in my opinion) of being an author. However, my channel is to be used for ppl who already have a story they want to publish, or have a story in progress and are looking for tools and methods to help them take the next step. Personally, I don't believe there is a real way to teach someone to be a creative writter. You can only teach someone who to express themselves in writting, but the creativity aspect can never be taught. After attending creative arts schools and even teaching art students, I've learned that skills can be sharpened but talent is in one's blood. Know what I mean? You can't teach creativity ^__^;; I can only help those who are already being creative and need some guidance :3 So, creating videos on how to write a story is almost...unrealistic(??) Especially since inspiration for a story can come from aaaaanywhere at aaaaany time.
@Natboy1299 жыл бұрын
+My Mangaka LIFE Thank you :D I do write down little note about the lore and aspects of the story, sometimes even a timeline of the order in which events and story arcs occur. Its just sitting down and writing the story out line by line that bores me to no end... I think i only ever got as far as two chapters before giving up :p But thank you for the advice, should i just get into the habit of writing scripts? True, I get that :p Though you could teach basic writing techniques, and wat tends to work and not work, like the Mary sue and things that can lead to it, or just what makes an interesting character. Though it is unrealistic to teach people how to write there own stories, I agree.
@MyMangakaLIFE9 жыл бұрын
+Natboy129 Time lines are great too, but for me, (someone with such an intricate story) my time lines QUICKLY become a crowded mess LOL Personally, writting in script for from the begining cuts writting time down for me and allows me to write in a way that focuses on dialogue and simply keeping small paragraphs of info about the scene, items, etc. I also create detailed character bios that span to about 50 pages per character. Yeah. My story is THAT intricate XD Think about this: when you begin drawing your manga/Comics what are you planning to do without creating a script? Make up the dialogue as you go along?? That's absolute madness, unorganized, and is setting you up for soooo many instances of you redrawing pages because you don't like how the dialogue flows anymore. Ppl can argue that planning out manga panels/pages is a bore too, but you know what? This is how it's done, and I honestly don't know, or ever heard of, an author who didn't plan things out. And publisher will NEVER accepted a book/comic submission without reading a completed story in written form.
@MyMangakaLIFE9 жыл бұрын
+Natboy129 And regarding the writting tutorials, I love so many writting styles and so many mangaka that it isn't my place to say what makes a good story. LOTS OF THING can make a story good, and I don't believe in the idea of "create a character this-and-that way to make a compelling character". It's artificial and disrupts my creativity. In all of my stories, my caracters developed organically and are living, breathing beings. They develop just like we do; life experiences and family life etc. all mold them into who they are. I take my work VERY seriously and to try to teach my ways to others simply isn't realistic for most ppl. My fiancé is the only other person I know who (before even meeting me) was developing characters and stories with the same intense dedication and understanding that these are real ppl we're creating, so treat them as such. I don't follow a chart or have bullet points in my head that I follow. No "Mary Sue" check list here XD LOL
@Natboy1299 жыл бұрын
+My Mangaka LIFE I have a rough idea of what the Dialog would be, and i usually solidify it when im sketching out the thumbnails, so i dont run into problems with the manuscript. Its not that i dont plan things out, i run stories though my head everyday and make sort of a mental script. I agree there is no correct way to write a character, but there are better ways to write one in order to make them relatable and interesting. I believe its possible to make anything work in writing, but theres always an easier and often better way to do things. Making a perfect character with no flaws or development is setting yourself up for disaster, and ultimately makes said character kind of boring and un-relatable. If your characters do develop organically, woldnt that make un-realistic characters that fit into the mary sue role off putting to you? In a way, Drawing and Writing are very similar, theyre both creative and once mastered each person has their own specific way of writing or drawing. So in many ways drawing is something that cant be taught, only the basics can be taught, and be people develop from there, much like writing. Sorry if im rambling on a little, lol :3

@MyMangakaLIFE8 жыл бұрын
+Lauren Bevins I'ma bit confused as to what they meant by they asked if they could "publish your comic". Do they own a publishing company? Were they going to assist you in finding a publisher or a printing company? Be careful and be sure you understand what they mean, that you have it in writing that you are not handing over the rights to them, that you copyright your writing and illustrations/pages (please watch my copyright video for info on how to do so), because the LAST thing you want is to hand over your beloved story to someone without knowing what's in store. Do what feels right but be SAFE and SMART about your decisions :)

how many pages or paper does one chapter need? or it depends on the author..?
@MyMangakaLIFE8 жыл бұрын
+Kiera Agravanz Very good question :) This is actually covered in my video "How to Make Manga: part 1.5- Writing/planning chapters." kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGfInaB7itGmsJo But to answer your question, you can aim for roughly 30 pages but you can have a little less or a little more sometimes. It really varies from story to story, but the main goal is "don't make it too long, and don't end it at a point where it feels unnatural" . You don't want it to feel like you just ran out of paper so you just had to end the chapter at a random point LOL I hope this helps :D
