We made this for my daughters halloween party. Can't wait to wear it. We used the air dry clay from crayola. Cracked a bit more than we would have liked, but it did work in case you can't find the kind you chezlin used. Found the Styrofoam half dome at Michaels in the floral section, many sizes so we didn't need to trim it down. Thank a million for this wonderfully detailed tutorial! You made our Halloween rock!!

This is a really cool project ^v^ Though I must say, as someone who works with faux fur regularly, I'm pretty sure a piece of my soul evaporated each time the fabric got cut. If you only cut the backing, it's less of a mess and the end result looks a lot nicer. That being said, this is such a nice cosplay. I love Princess Mononoke. It was the first Ghibli movie I ever watched.

I wanted to ask about the "slip" (water/clay mixture.) Clay and water do not quickly and easily mix normally. Without a lot of work and time you just have clay clumps in dirty water. I know pottery clay needs to sit in water for 24 hours usually to make slip. I've never tried with air-dry clay. How did you make yours? I can't find any instructions where people used DAS.

Hiya! I was wondering how did you get the fur cape/shawl/wolf cloak to stay on your shoulders? Did you attach it to your necklace? If so, did it fall back often and the necklace pull against your throat? In the middle of finishing mine and have no idea how to get the cloak to stay x
@chezlin

I attached it to my dress with safety pins. It did ride back after walking around for a while and I had to readjust it every so often, but that wasn't so bad :)

How long did the clay take to dry??
@vivicomvdevitoria
@vivicomvdevitoria 7 жыл бұрын
anna apacen it depends on the clay. The air clay usually dries fast, and if you are doing the mask outdoors (if the weather is really hot) the clay can dry in seconds. The eyes and mouth can take longer to dry because of the thickness of the clay.

After rewatching it many times, I think I understand almost all of it hahah so thanks again :). I just don't quite understand the hood part and why you cut four more of them. Also, for the placement of the mask, when you're not wearing it, does it just like stay in place or does it flip over?
@chezlin
@chezlin 8 жыл бұрын
I had to cut more for the hood because after I fit what I originally cut, it didn't sit right on my head, so I had to tweak it a bit and make it a bit bigger. And since I sewed the mask on to about halfway down the mask, that helps it not flip over when I don't have it over my face :)

You can water down the clay so its like a paste, or maybe even like a thick paint, and spread on a layer like that over the styrofoam. Sort of like a primer layer. Then the rest of the clay should be able to stick onto that.

Sorry it was a waste of time for you! Usually when I'm trying to find a certain step in a video and I don't want to bother with the rest of it and no one has broken it down into time stamps, I just click around until I find it, so I don't waste time. Edit: Oh shit, I was just going back through the video so I could make some time stamps so others didn't suffer the same fate as you, and I realized I never showed myself actually sewing the ears on. Sorry about that! I basically just threaded the yarn through the holes I made in the base of the ears and then through the hood of the cape. I didn't do anything special, which is why I probably thought a little voice over blurb was enough. Again, I'm sorry about that! I'm trying to be better at not assuming people will just know what I'm talking about, and to actually break down the steps enough. 😅

That's all right - I'm sorry too.I was just frustrated. My daughter is making this costume and we were both stumped on how to attach the ears - you'd be surprised how many tutorials skip that step! Sewing them seemed like the best way. and maybe reinforcing the stitches with hot glue, but thank you for explaining, as I'm sure other people will appreciate it as well. Otherwise it is an excellent tutorial - well done
