If you wrap the bowl/strainer in a sheet of saranwrap, the paper mache will come off much easier ^^ hope this helps anyone before they get stuck (literally) lol

Another Tip: if you don't have mod-podge just mix flour and water. Lot less pain on your wallet and works just as well.

Okay, if you guys are stuck (like me) because your mask is too glued at the strainer.. Just use a bit of water under the mask and your gonna be able to remove it imediatly and easily. You should do this if it is really stuck and if you don't want to damage your base.

Nice one, thanks. I suggest sticking the lace on the paper-machée layer, just before adding the air-dry clay. This way the lace won't fall off when the glue or the silicon are too worn.

really enjoyed this! i did try the air dry clay...with severe cracks...and i had a hard time finding the strainer you are using...what size is it? i ended up using a bowl/collander and wax paper....i spent all day filling cracks with glue and more clay... definitely a good learning experience! :)

I used a bowl as a base for the first part of the mask. The first time, it was impossible take off the mask. I tried again, but this time I wrapped the bowl in cling film: it was actually easier to take off the mask then!
@zedrineprimoris9168
@zedrineprimoris9168 9 жыл бұрын
If you do not have a strainer, a 9" balloon should work well. The main drawbacks are that you will need to eyeball the size of it, and may need to cut the mask down to a proper size for your face. Removing the mask from the balloon is pretty easy though. Just cut the thick part of the balloon to let the air out more or less gently and it will peel right off from your dried mask. Thank you so much for the tutorials Roxy!

hi!!! first of all, I just want to say your tutorial is amazing and soooo easy to follow! I am so glad I subscribed to you! and second, I was so confident in your tutorial, that me and my younger sister, who is cosplaying as san, tried making this mask by your tutorial and it came out great! I know in your description it says the mask may Crack while it's drying, so I was conscious about that. unfortunately, my sisters cracked quite a bit. so next next we will probably get a better clay. but other than that, it was fantastic! thank you so much for putting up your tutorials. you're amazing!!!! :3

@RoxyRocksTV
@RoxyRocksTV 9 жыл бұрын
Clay shrinks when it's drying so it's normal if it cracks a little just add water and clay to the crack to fill it in and then make the surface smooth when it's dry with sand paper ;)or try using another paper clay ;) I heard the one with the black package cracks less ;)

What is the name of the clay you used and did you use acrylic paint? Where can I get the cut out?
@RoxyRocksTV
@RoxyRocksTV 8 жыл бұрын
I used airclay but I recommend using paper clay (in the black package) instead because it's lighter and doesn't crack easily while drying , I did use acrilic paint and the template should be in the description box (if not google "mononoke mask") ;)

AWESOME!!! I am making it for my daughter's Halloween costume. Your tutorial is the best I have seen on KZbin. I am going to use an 8" strainer I hope that is right. Thanks again!!

+Tait Rowley a bowl or anything round ^^

+RoxyRocksTV +Tait Rowley The easiest solution would be a balloon. You blow it up to appropriate certain size, and when you finish the layering from one side, just pierce it from the other. It should come off easily. =)

@RoxyRocksTV
@RoxyRocksTV 9 жыл бұрын
+mystikstarrchyld when the clay is moist it should stick , if it falls add a little bit of water to make it sticky ;)

RoxyRocksTV I know a way to make it smooth however, in the movie her mask is wood so it wouldn't be smooth anyway :D would you say 20 layers?
@RoxyRocksTV
@RoxyRocksTV 9 жыл бұрын
Fanimal Central ~ HD maybe less! you can check while you are doing it cuz you have to let each layer dry! so when you feel the mask is thick and hard enough you can stop , I would do more than 10 tho for sure ^^
