Uncle, congrats and just know I could listen to your beautiful voice all day. My grandmother made the best mauby but I'm definitely going to try your method as I never knew about the 'rise' technique. Thank you and well done.

Love the way that pops broke it down. I'm about to make my first batch of Mauby. My mom and aunts gave me their recipe, since I have forgotten how my Grandma made hers. I dare say your Dad must have been a teacher, well he sounds that way anyhow...lol. Thanks for posting and my respects to your Dad.

Yes I agree with the previous comment, he is every eloquet with a friendly plesant voice. He decribed the missing ingredient from a recipe that I was looking for, the bay leaf. Using wine bottles is a good idea too. It gives respect to a tradicional drink. Also glass beer bottle will be a nice container too.

My mother and grandmother used to make this drink. So I' finally going to give it a try. They used brown sugar, or a mix of brown & white. Cheers!

I have always loved it since childhood. Am hypertensive and have recently started drinking and noticed my pressure is now so managable! I just checked it and it's 123/ 78 from 147/ 92!

That's the thing - I hate mauby normally. But with his recipe, it's actually quite sweet. I've never had mauby that compares. And I LOVE it when he does it.

What type of container are you setting it in? I have seen mauby blow off cork type covers. If screw type, cover but leave loose the mauby will be able to breathe. It will push froth up and out around the loose cap.

That's a good question. He always uses mauby that was premade. So I can't say for sure how you'd do it. It's something I want to research, because I don't have any mauby where I am, lol.

You'll have to leave it out longer if it's your first time making it, then save aome from that batch for the next time. That only speeds up the process.

not sure about the tree, But I just bought 8 oz. of bark on Amazon for about $12 that is a lot of mauby bark.

If you don't all ready have some bottled you can add some grains of rice, this will help it to rise.

In Guyana people would use Cream Soda, My mom also says some rice. But I know of people that put a little beer in it.

Dear Sir too avoid it getting thick & slimy. Boil the star anise in a sackcloth or a tinted bag. Tie it up & drop it in during boiling process. That's it

Small pieces of the bark of the tree is call cinnamon stick. Clove nutmeg and many more plants are spices. Visit GRENADA
