This is a quick tutorial on how to make mead or honey wine at home. It’s an easy fermentation that requires little time and effort

Hello, I'm a new subscriber. I found you in Kyungwoo's jinseng and honey ferment video's comment section. Your presentation and video quality is very good and I was engaged even though I abstain from alcohol. I learned about a new measuring instrument here (the thing you measured alcohol with). Looking forward to your new videos 🎉

Thanks that means a lot to hear! I consume alcohol very rarely, I probably won’t even drink this lol but I enjoy the process and I plan to make vinegar with some of this too. But I’m happy you enjoy it and I hope you enjoy the videos to come!

I saw some bubbles on the sides of the jar when you poured in the honey, did you rinse it well?
@NathanWalla11 ай бұрын
With Star San you don’t rinse. You just spray it on, let it sit at least 1 minute, then use! It doesn’t effect the fermentation nor leave any taste!

@@NathanWallayeah that just sounds like a lazy person’s thought process. I’d clean it again just for good measure

@@funnyguy6097 the instructions say to let it sit for at least one minute and to not rinse. Rinsing would defeat the purpose of the sanitizer. it’s a food grade phosphoric acid. It does not contain detergents or cleaning agents

Hello! I was just wondering how much honey do you usually take from the hive, and how much do you leave for the bees to go thru winter?
@NathanWalla10 ай бұрын
We usually get about 20-30 lbs per hive and leave 50 lbs for the bees. In the summer the hive starts running out of room because there are so many bees (up to 800000) so we put another box on top to give them space and they fill it all the way with honey. In the winter the hive reduces down to the size of a softball about 30000 bees. If they are having a tough winter or summer we will also feed them with pollen and syrup. But we’re we are they have a very mild winter so it’s not really needed.

@@elisagas2141of course! They are pretty much our pets so it’s in our best interest to make sure they are healthy all year!! Bees are very fascinating. Did you know that all worker bees are female?

Honey vinegar possible ?

I thought mead for beer or can you just increase the fermentation time / alcohol content to make it in to wine? What’s Star San?
@NathanWalla11 ай бұрын
So beer uses grains and it’s carbonated and wine uses fruit juice and it’s flat. Mead is actually it’s own thing. It uses only honey and it’s can be made carbonated or flat. I intend to bottle mine flat like a wine. But it really falls in the middle of the two. So it’s never a beer or a wine but the easiest way to describe it is wine like. Star San is a sanitizer that is used a lot in the cooking brewing industry. Typically you mix one Oz of star San with 5 gallons of water and use it to sanitize non porous things. It goes on wet and can be used without rinsing or drying, it’s food safe, and doesn’t effect fermentation
