Ms. Etnoff is on point! I felt like I couldn't stay with my mom when she was ill because I was rushing back to get to work. Sadly, my mom past away within two weeks. As a single mom it's always a challenge to balance working, being a mom, and having the time to look after my parents. I can't wait to work with Allison, so I can buy back my time.

She acts as a middleman and subcontracts with government to hire the business she signed a contract with. At least, that's my understanding. Think of it like this. Person A has money and wants to hire someone, specifically minority and women. Person B is looking to get paid and do work. She makes a contract with Person B and tells them to do the work for Person A. Let's say the contract is $10 Million. She could subcontract it and pay them either $9.5 Million to $9 Million

You know how we pay taxes for the government to fix roads and build bridges and keep the lights on? The government doesnt do that. They let government contractors bid for those jobs. They write a proposal and ask for money. This is actually where your tax dollars go. This is the public sector. My contracts used to charge $180 per hour for my labor and they paid me $16 an hour. The rest is for expenses and profit etc.

Myron, great interview. I've lived in Government contracting world for decades. I hate the term "minority" owned, but understand it's purpose in this context. If the Govt is going to issue contracts for services our businesses need to be competing.

This is so for me. I come from working in agencies who receive these funds or at the public housing authority level. I’ve been working to see how to work with them to help move families through the pipeline from homelessness to homeownership.

Absolutely loving this interview! It's so good to see that you really don't have to work hard to make a lot of money. Now I don't say that in any way to discredit her, because I know she is working super hard and has put in the work. However, she didn't have to give up 40+ hours away a week to an employer, not see her family, or strain her body. I have been in Project Coordinating and Management level roles and would love to see if this is a lane I couldn't switch into.

The National Contract Management Association headquartered in Reston, Virgina sells a FAR spiral book (Federal Acquisition Register) for $99.00. FAR is another great tool to use for rules relating to government contracting. NCMA also has lunch and learns re same. 🕊️
